Damn Blizzard’s marketing people. Even if a WoW player isn’t interested in StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty at all (that would be kind of odd in the first place) they are likely to take a hard look at buying the game. Scratch that. Buying a Collector’s Edition of the game. Big Download is reporting that the $99.99 (wow!) Collector’s Edition will feature a code to unlock a mini Thor vanity pet.

Leap of Faith was introduced to the world yesterday as part of April’s extensive dump of class change information for Cataclysm. Here’s how Amatera put it (Blizzard description here):
Leap of Faith (a utility spell that allows you to pull party/raid members towards you to get them out of trouble). I love utility spells like that because, when encounters are built around them, it means the game is a lot more about skill and less about chewing through numbers.
I do believe that adding skill to World of Warcraft is the appropriate direction, but I disagree that Leap of Faith has anything to do with that. In fact, it’s just a crutch. One that will simply piss off healers.
Check out my thoughts after the break. Continue Reading

Who wants to see a grainy version of this anyways? People starved for MMOGs, that's who!
Just days after finding out that there are “no current plans” for the previously announced Xbox 360 version of Champions Online comes a status update for Cryptic Studios’ other MMORPG. If you were holding out on the Xbox 360 version of Star Trek Online, you may want to give up. Like Champions Online, Cryptic is putting console ports of the trekkiest MMORPG on hold. Continue Reading

Take a wild guess where the image came from. -1 Sight if you get it wrong.
Amatera called it. A scant few days ago he prophetically said that we’d be seeing World of Warcraft news" href="../wow/all-quiet-on-the-azerothian-front/">an influx of World of Warcraft news in the near future. It has already come true. Just a mere 24 hours after his bold claim came the announcement of incoming news (I really hate that). Buried in the spur of speculative activity was a new reason to recruit a friend to the game. What this actually means is the mount collectors will have a new reason to recruit themselves to pay an extra $15 a month until they score the new mount: the X-53 Touring Rocket. Continue Reading

Last night wrapped up submissions for our first ever contest, and the turnout ended up being more than we expected. Lore Hound has been available to the avid fanbase for a few weeks now, but as many of you probably noticed, the crew is still hard at work on the overall presentation. The tweakage and PR blitz lead to many last minute submissions. Some good, some not so good.
See all the winning haikus after the jump. There’s even an extra prize! Continue Reading

Coming out of left field yesterday was the announcement that Lee Hammock, the man who helped shape Fallen Earth into the burgeoning MMOG that it is today, will be leaving the company. Lee was a part of the Fallen Earth team for over four years. He was staple in community shenanigans, helped shape the humor of the title, and is just a friendly guy to have a beer with. “The Beard Man” gave his soul, hell, even his beard, to the game. I’ve been barking for more information, more universe, more soul in Global Agenda since the game went live in February. During the company’s initial marketing push there was a concentrated effort to give the game a direction. Advertising chided the conventions of the greater MMOG market, mainly fantasy games and elves. During this time, those already interested in the title were treated to short stories detailing the formation of the current struggles. Unfortunately, since launch the background stories (ie things to do during maintenance or lunch break) ceased to be produced. Until now. Continue Reading

Unless you keep your ear to the ground in the free-to-play scene you probably haven’t heard of Perfect World Entertainment. The company started off by making a game based upon its own name, Perfect World International, before expanding via publishing agreements. PWI was followed up by two other F2P 3D MMORPGs, Ether Saga Online and Jade Dynasty. Both titles are well regarded and continue to thrive. You may have heard of them thanks to one of last year’s most surprising titles, Torchlight. Perfect World Entertainment has signed an agreement to publish the MMORPG version of Torchlight in the near future.
Enough about Perfect World’s past though, what about the present. I was fortunate enough to sit down with Perfect World’s Sam Houston to go over the company’s upcoming line-up during my stint at PAX East 2010. The first thing that was made clear to me is that Perfect World is striving to make solid games. Not good-for-a-F2P-game solid, but solid, period. It was refreshing for me to hear someone from inside the F2P industry admit to that sector’s major stigma. Hopefully Perfect World can meet its goal. Continue Reading
