Rusty Hearts: Requiem Updates Lore, Raises Level Cap

Once more we return to the world of Rusty Hearts, as Perfect World has released a major update for the game: Requiem. Requiem includes these lore and gameplay highlights:

  • Natasha makes her first appearance in Rusty Hearts lore and becomes an integral part of the team
  • Fluffy – yes, Fluffy – wreaks havoc in his monstrous return after a brief glimpse in the prologue/tutorial
  • Frantz searches for his lost love of Amelia heats up
  • Gerald continues his twisted and demented ways as he creates an alliance with Cipher to acquire more power
  • The Golden Seal team investigates the Opera House in an effort to locate the enigmatic power source bringing all the marionettes to life
  • The team’s investigation brings it to uncharted depths of the theater where they encounter one of the biggest enemies ever seen

Last, but certainly not the least, new skills for all characters, and a higher level cap.

We’ll have an in-depth look at Requiem after I investigate the newest update this weekend.

Dungeons & Dragons Online: Update 13 – Web Of Chaos

Fans of the Dungeon Master Column, Dungeons and Dragons and its online version can rejoice, the latest information is out on Update 13. Turbine has released some new media for the next update to Dungeons And Dragons Online. In addition, the company released some information about the next update which – in the words of Turbine – is going to be a prequel to the next expansion.

Players will be able to see some new quests that involve a cult called ‘The Lords Of Dust.’ Besides fighting this cult mob, the player will work their way up the chain, assaulting those in control of  the hive mind, the cat-like Rakshasa. While this is new material for a F2P title, the three extra quests are free.

Pushing the F2P note further, the DDO store itself received an update. The virtual general store for adventurers will see new items lining its shelves, the Cloak of Resistance, an Amulet of Protection and a full suite of +1 Elemental Touch Weapons. Players with spellcaster avatars are bestowed a double dose, as Turbine is going to add two items for them; the Omnispell Stone and Omnispell Dust. Both are  material components that can be used for any spell needing material components, freeing up player bag space. Last, but certainly not the least, a new veteran status, allowing players to start at level 7. The status can be earned by gaining enough favor or - of course - by buying it in the in-game store.

The Lord Of The Rings Online: Riders Of Rohan

Everyone fan of The Lord Of The Rings and its online version can rejoice as Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment and Turbine announced a new expansion for The Lord Of The Rings Online. Unlike its sister game from Turbine, this is the fourth expansion to this ever-growing game. This expansion is slated for a release in the fall of 2012.

This new expansion is going to be called Riders Of Rohan and will bring the player base to the vast plains of Rohan, which will include the areas of Amon Hen and Fangorn Forest. Besides going to these iconic areas, max character level will increase to level 85. Other aspects to get players excited; players are going to be able to join up with the Rohirrim and with the addition of mounted combat, it makes for one good combination.

It will be interesting to see how Turbine pulls off the mounted combat in such an old engine.

The Dungeon Master: The Rogue Class

In this Dungeon Master, we are going to sneak around DDO, gather some information, maybe even grab some items that are not ours. The class this time is, the Rogue.

Lore Bites: The Rogue comes in several different ways. Many thieves you find in the prisons of Eberron are of this slight-of-hand clan, but tales have been heard of noble men and women recruiting these shadowy figures to spy on the rival noble house. The rogues that become thieves mostly had a hard life living on the street resorting, stealing was a means to survival. Rogues that are more honorable – and take honorable lightly – become spies, working for kings and noblemen and women. Many people who tried were not able to find them, but there are stories of a rogue guild where both honorable and dishonorable of their  ilk find employment. Well-paying employment. Continue Reading

Dungeons And Dragons Online: Menace Of The Underdark

Every fan of The Dungeon Master Column, Dungeons And Dragons and its online version have been waiting for this moment for  ages. Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment and Wizards of the Coast announced a new expansion – the first one, in fact – to the growing community of Dungeons and Dragons Online. The title is currently slated with the open moniker of “summer,” meaning we’ll see it at the early parts of the convention season.

The new expansion is called Menace of the Underdark and will bring the player base to the Forgotten Realms, the first of the different areas of Dungeons and Dragons. Not only will we go back, Turbine will add in the master of different forms, the Druid. Besides these two exciting points, the level cap will rise to level 25, which gives the players five epic levels, with that of course comes the epic feats and epic magic.

Color this writer excited for this new expansion. I really wanna see the village in Forgotten Realms called Eveningstar. I truly wanna see how Turbine made the Druid, especially the shapeshifting aspect of the character. Is the Druid going to have just several forms and will it work the same as in World of Warcraft, or is the Druid going to have loads of different forms and the player can only choose just some of them which they think will work the best.We can only wait and see.

The Dungeon Master: The Sorcerer Class

In the first Dungeon Master of the year, we are going down the road with one – of two – arcane masters in the D&D Eberron universe that DDO is situated in. I am, of course, talking about the Sorcerer class.

Lore Bites: The Sorcerer is in many ways the same as the Wizard class. The biggest difference between the two is that where the Wizard learns his spells via study, the Sorcerer is born with the arcane powers inside themselves. This power usually comes out at an early age, and is uncontrollable by the young child.

After becoming older, and getting taught by another Sorcerer, they learn the power to harness their arcane power that is inside them. When they gain more experience in their life, and hone their skill with magic, they eventually develop more strong arcane powers; eventually becoming able to throw around the fiercest of spells. On a side note, even though the Sorcerer doesn’t have to study, this comes with a side effect – mainly, they have a less overall number of spells than a Wizard at their disposal. Continue Reading

On 15 November Cryptozoic released three new dungeon decks – Shadowfang Keep, Scarlet Monastery and The Deadmines. All of them offer an original twist to the group efforts that players may have been familiar with when the game was still run by Upperdeck. Where the older raids were completely controlled by one of the players, these new dungeons are played by a player who also still controls a deck of his own. The First Twenty Hours: War of the Immortals Review

War of the Immortals, which went live over the weekend, is the latest from free-to-play specialist Perfect World Entertainment. PWE should sound familiar. The growing Chinese company is responsible for publishing multiple titles on this side of the pond, including Perfect World, Forsaken World and Rusty Hearts, backed by numerous content patches for each.

Character Selection: The character selection screen looks quite nice and polished. Nothing unexpected from a PWE title. It has a nice temple in the background and the hellbears are certainly not misplaced. Right of the bat, the player can choose from a relatively high eight different classes, each of course specializing in its own unique gameplay. All characters definitely do look flashy when the player is choosing one, showing how their aesthetic design can look at the end of the leveling curve. Continue Reading
