MOBA Monday: It’s the Incredible, Browser-playable TOME (Giveaway)

29 September 2014 | No Comments » | Patrick "iTZKooPA" Mulhern

lh_TOME_immortal_arena_moba_monday_smite_orlonMOBA Monday is a weekly showcase of how to perform, eh, let’s go with adequately – we hope – in a massive online battle arena. The streaming squad features the hottest, upcoming or most interesting titles of their and the communities fancy for a few rounds of PvP shenanigans inour weekly Twitch channel staple.

The opening part of this week sees me back on the road which means one thing for the stream, the playing of games that can be handled by the mobile command unit. Oh, and you’ll have to delay swooning over my baby blues and beautiful beard for a little longer. Seeing as I’m sans a ridiculously powerful discrete video card today we’ll be diving into a title that is so slick, so expertly designed as to run seamlessly inside the browser you’re using to view this webpage (analytics tell me that Lore Hound still has a strong high-end desktop focus).

If you missed out on what Kixeye is aiming to do with TOME, then allow Shawn Carnes to catch you up his design philosophy. The company’s ingenuity with the popular Unity engine made one of those rare gems that took me by surprise at a PAX Prime. Focusing on accessibility and challenging numerous MOBA tropes, the designers are heading in an interesting, if somewhat uncharted, direction. Come join us in this Let’s Play session of MOBA Monday as we take our first look at TOME.

Today’s MOBA Monday didn’t feel like waking up today delaying the entertainment until 3:00 PM EST timeslot. Hit the jump or head directly to the channel page to watch live. Don’t forget to follow for all the updates and giveaway opportunities. This is especially important for TOME: Immortal Arena players as we’ve a nice collection of Diesel Orlon codes that will be given away over the next few weeks. Or would be players, as we’ve a few super-hard-to-find closed beta codes as well! Continue Reading

You know what I’m not doing right now? Downloading the MOBA that’s going to be one half of today’s presentation. That’s because Kixeye has managed to make a seamless experience in your browser thanks to its ingenuity with the popular Unity engine. TOME: Immortal Arena is one of those rare gems that can take you completely by surprise at a convention. Focusing on accessibility and challenging numerous MOBA tropes, the designers are heading in an interesting, if somewhat uncharted, direction.

And the old, well that’s me going back to farming up Worshippers for Arena play in SMITE. It’s been a few months and unlock TOME, Hi-Rez Studios was not part of the festivities in Seattle the other weekend. That’s not a knock by any means. It’s actually an excuse. I haven’t had any time to play SMITE in that long because of the convention and all the post production it requires. Time’s of the essence.

Oh, and more SMITE god and skin codes to give away!

F2P Friday: Nosgothian Curse Ending (Giveaway)

12 September 2014 | No Comments » | Patrick "iTZKooPA" Mulhern

highres_screenshot_00016_1401361891F2P Friday is our weekly showcase of the growing free-to-play market, from MMORPGs to first-person shooters and beyond. The stream team will feature the latest, greatest and just plain fun games that cost you nothing to play. Ever. Granted, you should throw the developer a bone if you enjoy a title, but you don’t have to.

Wow, PAX Prime has brought us an absolute ton of new material for F2P Friday. Better yet, we’ve so much loot from the awesome Seattle-based convention that sharing with you shant be a problem at all. You can familiarize yourself with many of the titles from our interviews at the show, such as Nosgoth, TOME, Pokemon TCG Online, and plenty more. Today, we’re going to return to a full dual-game F2P Friday by starting with the former, returning to a world full of vampires and humans that fight rather than be fed upon. That’s right, back into the Blood Omen with Nosgoth.

The back half of today’s stream will, hopefully, feature the third time I’ve assault the final area of Curse of Naxxramas and the second time I’ve come out alive. Sadly, I didn’t down anything back in vanilla WoW, few did, but the second appearence in Wrath of the Lich King saw Kel’Thuzad feel the taste of my poisons. Fear not, Hearthstone: Heroes of Warcraft fans, even if I do end Naxxramas, it won’t be the last adventure in the TCG. Not only do we have over 100 cards upcoming, but I need to start getting serious with my seasonal play and, well, the game is just darn fun and makes for an engaging stream.

Be sure to subscribe to the channel for all our streams, giveaways and shenanigans. Hit the jump for the livestream, which will be replaced later with the recorded edition of the show. Should my Internet hold up, the stream will appear at its normal time, 1:00 PM EST to about 3:00 PM EST. Continue Reading

MOBA Monday: It’s All Heroes of the Storm Today

The streaming squad features the hottest, upcoming or most interesting titles of their and the communities fancy for a few rounds of PvP shenanigans inour weekly Twitch channel staple.

Our PAX Prime coverage is still rolling out of the editing room, but that’s not stopping us from returning to our regularly scheduled Twitch programming. MOBA Monday will feature its first ever double dip by remaining in Blizzard Entertainment’s Heroes of the Storm, which itself remains in alpha development.

Sure, I’ve been enjoying the game these last few weeks. Trying out new heroes, messing with the merged pantheons and the unique gameplay. But I’d be lying if I didn’t admit that I’m simply riding the gold addiction imposed on me Hearthstone: Heroes of Warcraft *cough* Curse of Naxxramas *cough* into Blizzard’s very own MOBA.

Hmm, who to pick from this week’s lineup for in today’s double dose of Heroes of the Storm…I guess the day’s quests will have a strong indication as to which characters and roles I’ll be partaking in. Come watch me play some new characters!

Today’s MOBA Monday has been bumped to 3:00 PM EST to allow for continued editing. Hit the jump or head directly to the channel page to watch live. Don’t forget to follow for all the updates and giveaway opportunities. Continue Reading

Orcs Must Die! Unchained Receiving Massive Patch This Week

25 August 2014 | No Comments » | Patrick "iTZKooPA" Mulhern

OMDUThisIsBetaRobot Entertainment continues to play with every single facet of Orcs Must Die! Unchained. The tower defense meets MOBA game is receiving another large content patch that’s conveniently timed two days ahead of PAX Prime. It promises to once again confuse, revitalize and set the community to arguing. The latest patch is dropping this Wednesday, August 27.

Tundra, a mighty new hero, champions the list of all-new content for this closed beta patch. Featuring ranged and melee attacks, Tundra is a master of trap manipulation, disabling swaths of enemy and ignoring the occasion crowd control ability. The new hero is rounded out with twenty new trap cards, new items and a new weaver.

That’s the basics. The ever-increasing content that we’ve been promised since OMD!U was announced earlier this year; champions, trap cards for deck building and weavers. Included in the upcoming patch is a new twist to OMD!U. Robot Entertainment is mixing up the core gameplay with Minion Captains. These, let’s call them more intelligent mobs, are strong minions that accompany minion waves once a War Camp reaches level three or four, depending on the map.

Head past the jump for a trailer showcasing the upcoming patch and a variety of screenshots to to whet your appetite for Wednesday. Unfortunately, we’ll be too distracted with PAX Prime to be able to run F2P Friday or MOBA Monday. OMD!U will have to wait until early September before it’s featured again. Continue Reading

MOBA Monday: Heroes of the SMITE

Not today’s rotation.

MOBA Monday is a weekly showcase of how to perform, eh, let’s go with adequately – we hope – in a massive online battle arena. The streaming squad features the hottest, upcoming or most interesting titles of their and the communities fancy for a few rounds of PvP shenanigans inour weekly Twitch channel staple.

The latest F2P Fridaywent off with a hitch, you couldn’t see my adorable mug. Actually, it was a couple of hitches, including video quality, sound quality, game performance and my inability to do a single thing correct while playing Hearthstone: Heroes of Warcraft. As such, I’m glad it’s time for MOBA Monday. Sure, the equipment and Internet connection remains the same, but I’ve had time to correct those issues I have control over, purchase a new Logitech headset and test game performance ahead of time.

Today’s experiment is also one that I hope increases my self esteem. SMITE has been a strong suit for me since early beta testing in 2012 and that hasn’t really changed. This is despite playing numerous gods with little regard for having any experience with them or their item builds.

Exactly the kind of learning curve that isn’t too apparent in today’s other game, Heroes of the Storm. The unique gameplay design by Blizzard to focus more on team play, up to and including shared experience, regeneration globes and map objectives and the complete removal of item builds radically alters the community. Any player with knowledge of MOBA tropes and design can quickly find a heroes niche, select the appropriate skills and hold their own. I hope this holds true for this week’s god rotation.

Today’s MOBA Monday will be returning to its normal time at 1:00 PM EST. Hit the jump or head directly to the channel page to watch live. Don’t forget to follow for all the updates and giveaway opportunities. Continue Reading

MOBA Monday: Fictional & Mythological Pantheons

18 August 2014 | No Comments » | Patrick "iTZKooPA" Mulhern

moba_monday_heroes_of_the_storm_rotation_smiteMOBA Monday is a weekly showcase of how to perform, eh, let’s go with adequately – we hope – in a massive online battle arena. The streaming squad features the hottest, upcoming or most interesting titles of their and the communities fancy for a few rounds of PvP shenanigans in our weekly Twitch channel staple.

What do you get when you mix the great mythological pantheons of our ancestors with some of the great fictional pantheons of gamedom? Why you get today’s episode of MOBA Monday of course. I’ll be traversing the planes of existence between StarCraft, Warcraft and Diablo during the Heroes of the Storm session. Spending most of my recent time in the Warcraft realm thanks to Hearthstone (really, it’s thanks to Naxxramas and flapping my hands around), I’ll be stuck offering this week’s free rotation as the staple.

Not so for the adventure into Earth’s past, and in the case of Hinduism, present religious beliefs. There’s no limits here. Every god in SMITE is at my disposal with a wide variety of skins to boot. This should help as I so arduously continue to farm my way towards League readiness. And I’ve more skins to give away this week. The which god is given away will be determined by you, the SMITE-adoring community. Continue Reading

MOBA Monday: Infinite Smiteness (Livestream)

moba_monday_smite_Infinite-CrisisMOBA Monday is a weekly showcase of how to perform, eh, let’s go with adequately – we hope – in a massive online battle arena. The streaming squad features the hottest, upcoming or most interesting titles of their and the communities fancy for a few rounds of PvP shenanigans inour weekly Twitch channel staple.

It’s back into the depths of the growing ranks of human mythology later today. Join me in my continuing trek towards League play readiness for the Arena mode of SMITE. Who knows which god I’ll end up being forced into playing this week. Hopefully not a tank, since I’ve only a few of those gentle giants left to farm. Maybe I’ll give Serqet her first go.

The other half of MOBA Monday is heading into an entirely different mythology. That of the DC comics universe and its Crisis on Infinite Earths storyline. I haven’t been in the ranks of Infinite Crisis in quite some time, so it could be a little hectic, a little more death prone and a little more likely to lose. But hey, at least I still have a ton of in-game money with no idea of what to buy quite yet. Seeing as development is currently in a bit of a crossroads, there’s a chance I may be able to catch up skillswise before release.

All this and more shall begin around 1:00 PM EST. Hit the jump or headdirectly to the channel page to watch live. We’ll be giving away a god and recolor skin during the SMITE portion of the stream. Don’t forget to follow for all the updates and giveaway opportunities. Continue Reading
