Final Fantasy XIV has a release date: September 30th in all regions. Strangely, it seems that the Collector’s Edition will be available 8 days prior, on September 22nd. The PS3 version will be available next spring.
The Collector’s Edition will cost $75 in the US, compared to the $50 price tag. Players will be able to play 8 days sooner than players who buy the regular edition, and the CE also comes with the following goodies (translated):
Square Enix has updated the official Final Fantasy XIV YoutTube channel with a couple more videos.
First off, there is a video detailing the graphical changes that have occurred between the alpha and beta versions of the game, as well as combat changes:
The alpha version looks a lot like FFXI. By playing with the gamma and some colors, they’ve changed the feel of the world. There are also lots of new textures and the world looks a lot better overall.
The combat changes are intriguing as well. This looks similar to Aion’s combat system in some ways. It looks a lot more engaging and fast paced than the alpha version. We’ll have to wait until we can get a hands-on for a full report.
Additionally, here is a third video from E3 where they talk about some of these changes and some gamers gawk at the 3D displays.
Final Fantasy XIV has been relatively out of the limelight at this year’s Electronic Entertainment Expo. Most of the updates have come out as videos on Square-Enix’s sites, notably their Youtube channel. With the game supposedly launching this year, I wish that they would put on a better show.
The released videos are equally underwhelming. In this video, some Japanese men put on some 3D glasses and look at a multi-monitor display and make some gasping noises. We can’t see the 3D in the video, so its extremely underwhelming.
How do you feel about how the FFXIV media campaign is being handled?
If you’re looking for a game to fill that chocobo-shaped hole in your heart between Final Fantasy XIII and FFXIV, your saving game might just be here. Maybe.
Chocobo Panic, which Square Enix just released last week for the iPad and iPhone, includes some fun innovations that make good use of the touch screen platform. Just don’t expect any story line or RPG action. Read on for the gist of this cute, twister-like game for fingers.
Looks like I have some bad news for a bunch of Republic fans today. Although it’s not 100% confirmed, given the recent rumours, and now this EA investors report I’d say the possibility of an MMORPG based on Knights of the Old Republic is practically non-existant.
According to the rumours, and this report definitely confirms them, BioWare has begun working on a third installment of Knights of the Old Republic. This has been confirmed. What hasn’t been confirmed is whether or not this will be a traditional sequel to the beloved franchise or an MMORPG. However, I really wouldn’t get your hopes up for the latter. As you can clearly see above it shows that BioWare is working on 4 projects now: Mass Effect, Dragon Age, KOTOR, and “New MMO”. Had KoTOR been the “New MMO” they probably wouldn’t have separated it with a comma like they did with every other game in the report.
Once again, this is not confirmed, but I really wouldn’t get your hopes up. You’ll only get tham dashed later. On the lighter side of the news today, I have been hearing murmurings of a new Star Wars MMO being made by an unannounced company. Anything has got to be better than the one that’s out now right?
