Guild Wars 2 headstart opens 3 hours early!

25 August 2012 | No Comments » | Mike

What are you doing still reading this? Guild Wars 2 has officially launched it’s headstart!

Guild Wars 2 fans, especially on the east coast, can rejoice as ArenaNet has opened servers three hours ahead of schedule at 12:00am EST. The move comes after fans on the east coast complained a 3:00 am launch time would be too late and it seems their prayers have been answers.

Now if you excuse me I have some battling to do in World vs World.  Also check out our friends at GW2Versus a dedicated World vs World forum with a full list of server forums. See you on the battlefield.

ArenaNet announces another Guild Wars 2 stress test for tomorrow!

8 August 2012 | No Comments » | Mike

If you missed the last Guild Wars 2 stress test, you’re in luck as ArenaNet has just announced that another one is planned for tomorrow, August 9th from 3:00 pm EST to 7:00 pm EST.

Anyone who has pre-purchsed GW2 will have access to it.

Below is a caution from ArenaNet incase you happen to run into connection issues or bugs, as people tend to forget that this is still a test.

We will be actively working on the game during the event, so you might experience connectivity problems or discover features that are not working as designed. Any issues you experience are a result of the rigorous conditions of the stress test, and are in no way representative of the state of the game at launch. By participating in this stress test, you’re helping us make Guild Wars 2 a better game. Thanks for your cooperation—we’ll see you in-game! ~RB2

Hours in queue; No World vs World

22 July 2012 | 4 Comments » | Mike

The last Guild Wars 2 beta weekend is about to end and at least for me it was a complete disaster and waste of time.

Late Saturday night (actually early Sunday morning), about 1am EST was the first chance I had to even log into the game and within 10 seconds of logging in a server maintenance message saying World vs World was going to be taken offline went up. I did some PvE and got to level 4 when another message came up saying it was back online. Of course I was excited and immediately went to join World vs World when I was hit with a “World vs World is full” message, asking me if I wanted to join the queue, which I obviously did. Hard to believe that I didn’t get in when I literally tried to join within 5 seconds of the message. An hour and a half later, I was still waiting in the queue and at 3:30 am EST I finally gave up. During that time I tried multiple times to log into WvW, incase the full message was an error, but no luck.

Today was no better when I logged in late afternoon around 6:30pm EST and got the same WvW is full message and waited in queue for another hour and a half and still couldn’t get in.

Now I know the beta was packed, every single server had a “High” server load when I logged in today, but these queue times are not acceptable. At least give an estimate wait time or something.

I certainly  hope this is not going to happen when the game launches next month as I have zero interest in PvE and the only reason I’m playing GW2 for its World vs World PvP. My confidence in ArenaNet has been a bit shaken after this beta weekend, but hopefully they can make it up next month with a smooth launch.

LoreHound Crier: Week of 7/20 In a Glance

20 July 2012 | No Comments » | Pherephassa

This week is slow as I wake up… due to various happenings, my schedule is almost reversed this week and I’m finding myself eating breakfast at 2 in the afternoon. I’ve never minded being a night owl, but it is sad that I’ve been missing my gaming buddies all week and having to play it solo.

It’s another week that heralds both a death and a birth. It seems as though there’s been quite a few server shutdowns lately, I wonder is it an over-saturated market or just bad games? Either way, it still makes me sad. Every game, no matter how bad it is, has someone, usually someones, who worked hard to try and bring it into the world, and I’ve never seen a game that didn’t have at least one person who enjoyed it. I’ll kill a few zombies in TSW in honor of this week’s dying game.

Introducing GW2Versus

20 July 2012 | No Comments » | Mike

From the shameless plug department I’d like to introduce you guys to GW2Versus.com a newly launched (as of today) GW2 forum dedicated to World vs World and PvP combat.

The site features individual server  forums so players can have a centralized location to meet up and plan strategies. We all know World vs World is going to be major part of Guild Wars 2 and being able to communicate with your server’s community is going to play a huge role in being competitive.

Tomorrow begins the final GW2 beta weekend so there’s no better time to join GW2Versus and start getting to know your community.

LoreHound Crier: Week 7/13 At a Glance

13 July 2012 | No Comments » | Pherephassa

It’s been a busy week! The Secret World continues to keep me entertained, as can no doubt be seen in all the blurbs I put up about it. Next week I’ll be putting up the second and final section of my review, as well as starting a weekly TSW-related article. I’ve flopped around on it so much, but I think I’ve finally decided what I’ll be focusing on! Huzzah! So stay tuned for that, if you like reading what I have to say or The Secret World. Or both. I’m good if you like both of these things. I may even do two, if there’s enough interest.

This week brought more SMITE divine lore, tons of interesting things for The Secret World, musings on stocks and CEOs, as well as a contest, a giveaway, and some interesting opinions! Click the button below to check it all out!

What’s That? You Want the Latest on Guild Wars 2? Beta & OST News Inside

9 July 2012 | No Comments » | iTZKooPA

Well, we’ve got it for you. The first and most exciting to those with ears would be the revelation that ArenaNet has released the upcoming fantasy MMORPG’s soundtrack as a stand-alone SKU. Unfortunately, that SKU is going to run a hefty $30. The good news about this tasty morsel of tease is that the OST is available now at that premium price and will be delivered before the title’s release on August 28.

And no, having the Collector’s Edition does not get you this soundtrack, just part of it. The $160+ Collector’s Edition features the “Best of” music from Guild Wars 2. This bad boy features four disks of unreleased goodies autographed by composer Jeremy Soule. Get the hint? There’s no digital version currently available or expected.

In further “don’t tease me, bro” news, ArenaNet has announced that the asura and sylvari races will be playable for the first time during the last beta weekend of July 20-22. This means all races of Tyria – human, norn, charr, asura, and sylvari – will be playable during the final phase.

Asura players will begin in the exotic jungle of Metrica Province, full of labs, golems and, naturally, mad scientists. Sylvari players pick up in the Grove, a living city in the shade of the Pale Tree. Yeah, just think of the Grove as the World Tree Yggdrasil from Norse mythology, with unique ArenaNet twists, of course.

Hit the jump for the latest screens from Metrica Province and the Grove and see you next weekend. Continue Reading

Guild Wars 2 Release Date Announced

28 June 2012 | 2 Comments » | iTZKooPA

ArenaNet has finally done it. The company has finally announced the release date for its upcoming subscription-less MMORPG Guild Wars 2. And that date is, wait for it…August 28, 2012! Considering that the true date is a full three months earlier than the previously-expected date of “before Thanksgiving” this gamer is jumping for joy. With the date finally official it is time to begin planning that “sick” day (week) and pack in the extra sleep hours to prepare for a caffeine fueled powerleveling session at the end of August.

Clearly the most exciting news, but the post contained the date for the final Beta Weekend, July 20-22, and a short trailer to get us pumped up, as if we weren’t already.

You can catch the trailer after the jump. Now might be a good time to go pre-order the title.
