Latest SMITE Patch Adds Handful of New Features, Free Skin

20 September 2012 | No Comments » | iTZKooPA

Hi-Rez Studios has updated its upcoming MOBA to the ridiculous version of v0.1060.0. Sure, the nomenclature is irrelevant, but the additions it brings to SMITE are anything but.

The developer has continued to push the title forward, adding a new mode, Joust, to settle the 1v1 e-peen requests. Players can now rent the deities to test their mettle before making a permanent purchase. Renting consumes favor rather than gems. Another change to purchasing is being able to do so from the selection menu, a much needed addition that should enable Hi-Rez to secure even more impulse skin purchases!

Outside of feature additions, Hi-Rez is currently offering a free Sun Wukong skin for Facebook fans new and old. As of press time, the system for retrieval  is currently offline due to a bug (Now working). Other notable changes include a bonus for drawing First Blood, massive changes to the way Assists are handled, a quartet of new items to fill certain roles and more.

SMITE: Demigods, Deities and Gods Explained – Cupid

21 August 2012 | 3 Comments » | iTZKooPA

SMITE: Demigods, Deities and Gods Explained is a column dedicated to introducing prospective players of SMITE to its massive back story of lore. From the Greek to Hindu, each week we’ll look at two characters from a major pantheon and provide a quick recap of their history and in what capacity their digital incarnation will represent on the field of Hi-Rez Studios’ upcoming MOBA.

Lore: As the God of Love in Roman mythology, Cupid is in charge of the happier moments in every mortal and deity’s life. Running the desire, affection and erotic love department, Cupid doles out his form of justice with the tip of an arrow. Suiting, as his parents are Venus, Goddess of Love, and Mars, God of War. Unlike the shaded morals of his pantheon, Cupid rarely had a dastardly side.

The diaper dandy is best known for inciting affection in others. Tales of his deeds indicate that the cherub was a notorious flirt, usually with the friendly nymphs, and mischievous. Ultimately, Cupid succumbed to his own talents when he went on a mission for his mother to ruin Psyche. Continue Reading

Tribes: Ascend – Now Twice as Many Fusors!

26 July 2012 | 1 Comment » | iTZKooPA

The fastest shooter on this planet just received a double dose of spinfusor goodness. The latest content patch for Tribes: Ascend has unleashed the Twinfusor update on skiing fanatics worldwide. Hi-Rez Studios apparently believes that a game that moves so fast needs no background, dumping the new content upon us without rhyme or reason.

And I’m alright with that.

Players of the Pathfinder, Soldier or Juggernaut classes can expect to see a new ‘Unlock Available’ in their primary weapon slot when they login. In addition, Hi-Rez has thrown in two new voicepacks for each sex, a trio of skins and a pair of CTF maps. The CTF maps were specially made for customer server use.

The patch includes a handful of changes to matchmaking tweaks, allowing lower level players to be matched with players of their expected skill level in a smaller subset of maps. Read, newbie-friendly maps. Pre-mades is now available as well.

Hit the jump for the Twinfusor content patch trailer and the full Version 1.0.1055 patchnotes. Continue Reading

From the Greek to Hindu, each week we’ll look at two characters from a major pantheon and provide a quick recap of their history and in what capacity their digital incarnation will represent on the field of Hi-Rez Studios’ upcoming MOBA.

Lore: The legend of  the just-revealed Bakasura is a rather simple one to consume. The great Asura was a pure antagonist to those around him, demanding his home city of Ekachakra to constantly supply him with obscene quantities of edibles. Upon delivery, Bakasura would greedily devour all that came to him, couriers included, earning him the title of the Great Devourer.

Hi-Rez Studios Reveals Bakasura – The Great Devourer

19 July 2012 | No Comments » | iTZKooPA

Just as we wrapped the lore for the original Closed Beta gods, Hi-Rez Studios has announced a new god for the troublesome Hindu pantheon. Bakasura – The Great Devourer is a melee DPS assassin that specializes in chasing down his opponents and unleashing a fury of cuts. Bakasura is also a very capable jungler thanks to being able to completely remove lower-level mobs from the encounter.

Only the second unveil by Hi-Rez Studios, the company is doing a fantastic job attracting players with this reveal. Unlike Guan Yu, Bakasura was given all the bells and whistles in SMITE’s new God Reveal YouTube series.

Expect Bakasura to get the Lore Hound lore treatment next week.

Lore: Ymir has two distinct and, at least partially, contradictory origin stories, both credited to Snorri Sturluson. In the earliest account, Ymir is a primeval being born from the venom of Élivágar. He lived a solitary life on Ginnungagap until he bore a male and female from his armpits. Not to be outdone, his legs spawned a six-headed being. Elsewhere on his person, the brothers Odin, Vili and Vé created the numerous realms from Ymir’s very being. His skin became Earth, his blood the ocean, his eyebrows became Midgard, land of mortals and on.

Lore: Zeus is one of the most well-known gods of any pantheon. The founding member of Olympus with his siblings – including older brother Hades – the God of the Sky and Thunder wrestled control of the heavens from the previous generation of Titans, including his father Cronus. His founding status and control of thunder and the sky awarded Zeus extreme power when the realms were divided between himself, Hades and Poseidon. Even those gods not descended from him respectfully call Zeus “Father.”
