Official Lore Hound Minecraft File Downloads [Updated 8/13/12]

13 August 2012 | 4 Comments » | LHStaff

Hello Minecraft Players! This is where you can download everything needed to play the Single Player Mode (SPM) of our up-coming server world, Amalos, and download the texture pack (and needed HD fix) seen in our “Minecraft Adventures” videos.

After there being multiple updates (recently Update 1.3.1), and rather than multiple links on different articles (or a massive amount of Facebook status updates), we decided to keep a running update page for new updates as they arrive.

Check back every once in a while to see if there is a new update! (Usually around an official Minecraft Update)

[Important Update]: Due to the fact that there were SEVERAL optimizations done to Minecraft in Update 1.3.1, we are no longer supporting an SD version of our texture pack. Also, the texture pack has been renamed from “Imperial Texture Pack” to “Amalos HD Texture Pack”.

MCPatcher (Needed for both Textures):

Download:

Installation:

  1. Drag the .exe or .jar to where you want it to be located, and run it.
  2. Select the box next to “HD Textures” (and the others for safe measure) and then hit “Patch”.
  3. Once it’s done, run Minecraft with the texture pack and all should work fine.

Funcom Announces Founding Cabal Service to Guild Leaders

15 June 2012 | No Comments » | LHStaff

This is a guest article written by Sephalon.

Earlier this week, a Community Manager announced on The Secret World forums that Funcom will be having a “Founding Cabal” lottery. Just in case you didn’t know, a Cabal is just a guild called… well a cabal.

As Famine, the CM who made the announcement, said it:

Attention Guild Leaders!

You and your guild now have the chance to become one of the privileged few that have a unique opportunity to secure your guild’s prominence in The Secret World as a Founding 50 Cabal(cabals in The Secret World are equivalent to guilds in other MMORPGs). Leaders of guilds that are already in existence and who seek to have a presence in The Secret World may apply for one of alimited number of reserved spots.  Continue Reading

Thank You, Lore Hound Community, for Bringing Us this Far — Now Where to Go From Here?

22 July 2011 | 10 Comments » | LHStaff

This community that we’ve built here at Lore Hound is a sharp one, so you probably already know what’s coming. As you’ve noticed, we’ve had very little content posted in the past few weeks. While we’ve never been a post-a-minute site, we have in the past tried to keep our readers in the loop about the most major news happening in the MMO world, and how it affects you. So for our failure to continue to provide that service without explanation in the past few weeks, we owe you a heartfelt apology.

As it turns out, we do have our reasons. Our core crew of bloggers has unfortunately shrunk to the point that we cannot continue as we once were. So, right now we’re facing a critical question: Whether to change, or to move on.

Last year, as many of you know, we opted for change when our group moved over to Lore Hound from the previous blog at which we had all met. But circumstances have changed, as they tend to do, and our group is in a much different place than it was at that point.

While we don’t have an answer for you yet, we will soon. Should Lore Hound continue on, we may have to shift our coverage area to a load that is more manageable for the remaining crew. Should we decide to move on, we will let the community know.

Either way, we are thankful to the audience that has been responsible for our growth to this point. It’s been you, the reader, who helped us get off the ground. And it is you who we continue to think of as we decide how to proceed.

Thank you for your support up until now, and we’ll talk again soon.

Ronix Rants – Get em’ by the balls…their hearts and minds will follow

13 May 2011 | 3 Comments » | Ronix

Disclaimer: The views of the writer in no way match the views of rest of the Lore Hound crew. In fact, they are just as disturbed by this post as you are.

People like to dabble in role-playing, right? We automatically assume certain roles in our day-to-day interactions, we occasionally imagine ourselves as different characters living in fictional universes, we role-play during sex… and where was I? Oh yes, role-playing.

Today, I’m going to role-play an armchair game designer. And not just any game designer, but a jaded, angry, border-line maniacal fellow who wants to bludgeon you with a vicious-ass trout. Get ready because this is going to be a rant of sorts, and boy, do I have an axe to grind.

Recently, a number of gaming-related portals have posted PvP Impressions for Star Wars: the Old Republic. Turns out, the new mechanics in the game allow fights to last longer due to a lack of burst damage at mid-levels, an anti-crowd control measure for each class and an unusual approach to tanking. With regards to the latter, in most MMORPGs, the various taunts and aggro-related skills for tanks only work in PvE, with no consequence for enemy players. However, SW:TOR’s PvP mechanics make active use of those skills by having a slightly different effect. A taunted player, for example, will do -50% less damage to everyone besides the person who put the effect on him. Another example is the guard ability, which will allow tanks to take damage instead of enemies.

SWTOR seems to be taking a page from Warhammer Online, which has made use of some of the mentioned tanking mechanics for PvP. There is ‘nothing’ wrong in borrowing good ideas from other sources, provided they can be implemented into your game, right? Right. What really strikes me as odd are the people writing about their SW:TOR experience and commenting how fresh these mechanics felt. Come again? Continue Reading

For the Hoard 20 – The Violently Cute Panther Cub

12 May 2011 | 1 Comment » | pixiestixy

The Winterspring Cub was a snap, so I’m back again — this time with another pet new to WoW Patch 4.1 which takes a bit more work to get. That’s right, I’m talking about the Panther Cub. It’s a reward that’s about a dozen or so quests into a string that explores the rise of the Zandalari trolls.

We’ll zoom through the quests and focus on the end result more than the lore, since that’s what For the Hoard is all about. But definitely pay attention as you go through the lore, too — it will make your next entrance into Zul’Gurub and Zul’Aman all the sweeter!

Small and Simple Things: Shakes and Fidget Stealing My Attention

27 April 2011 | 2 Comments » | Mordil

I will always be the first one to admit that I tend to have what many refer to as “a lack of focus.” I’m often doing so many things at once that it baffles some people how I get it all done.

At any given moment online, I could be texting, whispering 3 people, listening to music, talking to my guild in vent, and tanking / healing at the same time.

Frankly, I sometimes don’t get things done, and I skip doing them altogether, or miss opportunities to say, log in to WoW to do my daily random to finish off more important things, say U.S. History homework.

However, something has been addictive as of late, and keeps pulling me to log on and check what is happening: Shakes and Fidget.  I can’t exactly explain what goes on in my head, but it’s something about the gameplay that I find so fun, and S&F takes it to the most simple model.

From questing by just selecting one of three that are available at a time, and then waiting for the proper “travel time” to arrive to fight a monster, to going into a dungeon solo to take on a boss with just simple clicks. I can’t resist doing as much as I can, as fast as I can. Continue Reading
