Star Trek Online Gateway System Brings Game Mobile, Kinda

17 October 2012 | No Comments » | iTZKooPA

Cryptic Studios has just announced that Star Trek Online will be leading the MMOG sector in innovation. The company is currently working on a the STO Gateway system (working title), which will enable players to access crucial game information from outside the PC client. Accessible from your standard desktop, smartphone or tablet, at launch the Gateway system will enable games to get a look character details, ship and officer statuses, all equipped items and account achievements.

Perhaps more important than the initial announcement is the disclosure that this is the beta client. Cryptic Studios has been working on the feature for months and explains that there are “more features and functionality to come.”

The beta version of the Gateway system will launch as part of the Season 7 content update. There’s no timeline for updates, but after the jump you can read my initial impressions and see stills of the current incarnation. Continue Reading

Panasonic Unveils Handheld Hardware Focusing On Mobile MMO Gaming [Update]

5 October 2010 | 3 Comments » | iTZKooPA

Panasonic has tried, and failed, to enter the video game sector before.  Numerous parties have tried to destroy Nintendo’s hold on the handheld market, from Sony to Nokia to Bandai.  No party – with the exception of Sony – has managed to stay around, let alone gain any ground.  Panasonic is looking to avoid the failures of the past by creating a new market, true mobile MMO gaming.

Forget mobile applications.  The Jungle hopes to relegate these small windows in to our MMOG worlds like WoW, Fallen Earth or Guild Wars 2, as pure rubbish. Panasonic will attempt to carve its own niche with The Jungle.  The company believes that by developing a piece of hardware capable of playing today’s browser-based MMO games it can create the mobile MMOG market.

Hit the jump for the full details, including the teaser video.

More Realms Added to Mobile AH Beta

20 May 2010 | No Comments » | Heartbourne

Itching to use the new mobile auction house? Do you have a character on Cyclone or Bloodlust battlegroups? Well, you are in luck! Check out the list of realms added to the beta:

Remote Auction House Beta Test – Update

The World of Warcraft Remote Auction House beta test is now open for business! The Remote Auction House is a new service in development that lets players access the World of Warcraft Auction House from the Armory website (http://us.wowarmory.com/auctionhouse/) or the Mobile Armory app for iPhone and iPod touch (http://itunes.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewSoftware?id=321057000&mt=8). Players can browse their characters’ local Auction Houses with the same search functionality available in the game, as well as see the real-time status of each of their current bids and auctions.

As we’d mentioned previously (http://forums.worldofwarcraft.com/thread.html?topicId=22748781945), certain features of the Remote Auction House will be premium-based. Once the beta test is complete and the Remote Auction House is live, players will be able to subscribe to a new service called World of Warcraft Remote (http://us.wowarmory.com/wow-remote.xml), which will allow them to buy items; post items for sale from a character’s bags, bank, or mailbox; collect gold from their bids and auctions; and more. During the beta test, players can try out these features for free, and each World of Warcraft account will be able to perform up to 25 transactions per day. (Please note this limit will be increased at launch.)

The list of realms eligible to participate in the beta test is displayed below. If your realm is not on this list, please check again soon, as we plan to eventually open the beta test to all realms.

Update 5/20 – The supported list of realms has been updated to include the Bloodlust and Cyclone battle groups.

Pocket Hound: Doodle Jump — Incredibly Addicting and Still Fun a Year Later

17 May 2010 | No Comments » | pixiestixy

Pocket Hound is a new regular blog/video feature on LoreHound.com that aims to point our readers to the best handheld games out there. Be they for iPhone, iPad, other mobile devices, Nintendo DS, PSP, whatever — if they fit in your pocket and can hold our attention, we’ll be letting you know. Drop us a note for any games you’d like to see featured.

For this inaugural edition of Pocket Hound, I have chosen to write about a game that is very near and dear to my heart. Although it’s been around for more than a year, Doodle Jump by Lima Sky continues to dominate my attention anytime I have a short interval to kill. Whether waiting in line at the grocery store or to get seated at a restaurant,  riding in the car (passenger side, of course), or waiting out the time that I’ve been put on hold during a phone call, it continues to be my micro-game of choice.

So just what is Doodle Jump? Well, many of you who either have an iPhone or regularly play a friend or loved one’s iPhone probably already know. As of a couple months ago, the game has been downloaded more than 3 million times and has dominated the top ranks of the app store in the US and throughout Europe.  The price certainly isn’t bad, though it isn’t free — $0.99 (£0.59) on iPhone. In March, it was introduced on the Android for $3.99 (£2.75).

But here’s the gist for the uninitiated. In this action game, you play the role of the Doodler — a short, green, four-legged creature who is jumping his way up, up, up through a maze of  platforms, aliens, power-ups and clever obstacles.

Read on for more on game challenges, features and updates.

WoW and Other MMOs on the iPad Coming Soon?

3 May 2010 | No Comments » | pixiestixy

Since I picked up my iPad on launch day, one major lament of mine has been the lack of strong games, at least compared to the app store for the iPhone and iPod touch. Sure, there are a few gems but I guess I just have to be patient and give the market time to catch up. So when I ran across this photo in one of my RSS feeds this afternoon, my optimism took a slight upturn. The very thought of WoW on the iPad is enough to make me grin.

The innovation, achieved through an upcoming streaming gaming service called Gaikai, claims to allow gaming through pretty much any browser. How’s it work? According to the site, Gaikai hosts and runs the games that you want to play from ANY device that has a web browser.

“Gaikai takes a radical new approach – we host the games, we run them, we worry about hardware and software updates, and we stream them to you. Full resolution, full speed, stereo sound, low lag, no compromise. The only thing you need is a browser and an internet connection.”

Oh right, and the site also says on another page that you need the latest release edition of Adobe Flash. Which the iPad doesn’t support. So how does it work exactly…? That part is left out.

So, I’m left wondering how legitimate the idea really is.

Click for more analysis on whether this is real and how it could potentially work if it is.
