Exclusive: Lord of the Rings Online’s 5th Anniversary Festival with Aaron Campbell

20 April 2012 | 1 Comment » | iTZKooPA

In the only embargoed interview of the year to date, iTZKooPA stood up with Aaron Campbell, Senior Producer of LotRO, to discuss the title’s unprecedented festival. Created to celebrate the MMORPG’s amazing five-year anniversary, the gather is the largest celebration in LotRO’s history. Developer Turbine Entertainment took the issue to heart and created the largest event for an anniversary in its history.

Fireworks, unique mounts and costumes are just some of the additions. Most interesting is the veteran’s reward system, granting those that have been in it for the long haul much more grandiose rewards than a player that joined when the title went free-to-play.

Festival gifts, activities, rewards and more are discussed and shown below the cut.

For the Hoard 20 – The Violently Cute Panther Cub

12 May 2011 | 1 Comment » | pixiestixy

The Winterspring Cub was a snap, so I’m back again — this time with another pet new to WoW Patch 4.1 which takes a bit more work to get. That’s right, I’m talking about the Panther Cub. It’s a reward that’s about a dozen or so quests into a string that explores the rise of the Zandalari trolls.

We’ll zoom through the quests and focus on the end result more than the lore, since that’s what For the Hoard is all about. But definitely pay attention as you go through the lore, too — it will make your next entrance into Zul’Gurub and Zul’Aman all the sweeter!

For the Hoard 19: The Purring Winterspring Cub

10 May 2011 | 1 Comment » | pixiestixy

We’ve seen an influx of new pets and mounts to go collect since the release of WoW Patch 4.1 last week, and I’m here to show you how on For the Hoard. We’re starting off the action with something simple but cute — the Winterspring Cub. Hope you enjoy the episode, and keep a lookout for more FTH episodes coming very soon!

For the Hoard 18: Subdued Abyssal Seahorse, The Super-Fast Swimming Mount

11 March 2011 | 3 Comments » | pixiestixy

I’ve been thoroughly enjoying the beautiful aquatic environments found in one of  World of Warcraft: Cataclysm‘s new zone, Vashj’ir, and now I have a new mount added to my growing hoard that will guarantee I continue enjoying it (and any other water zones, for that matter currently only usable in Vashj’ir) even more. Blizzard was thoughtful enough to include a new underwater mount for this environment that is not only super cute, but also pretty easy to come by, and very fast to boot.

In this episode of For the Hoard, we’ll take a look at the Subdued Abyssal Seahorse, how to get her (I’ve deemed her to be female. Care to disagree?), and maybe even take her for a spin. Enjoy!

The New Mount Line-Up: Post-Patch 4.0.1 Riding

8 November 2010 | 9 Comments » | pixiestixy

At 310% speed, this guy streaks blue across the sky.

For those of us who were lucky enough to score a 310% flying mount before Patch 4.0.1 hit, and also for those who didn’t but shelled out ~5k gold for the Master Riding skill, the time of fun has arrived. Well, technically, I suppose it arrived a couple weeks ago, but the whole moving thing delayed my ability to write this post.

Regardless, the time of fun has arrived! Those of us who now have Master Riding no longer have to choose one flying mount over another simply because of its speed. Now since all of our flying mounts will scale to 310%, we can once again give them each a chance to shine without sacrificing the ability to haul ass.

This, of course, means the re-introduction of my trusty old flying mount macro that I basically stopped using after acquiring Reins of the Onyxian Drake on a lucky roll. One of my first orders of business after getting my computer back up and running was firing that macro up, making a few additions, putting the button on my bar, and then spam-clicking the hell out of it for a few minutes, gleeful that it works.

At exactly the 255-character limit for macros, here’s mine:

/castrandom Sunreaver Dragonhawk,Albino Drake,Azure Netherwing Drake,Cobalt Netherwing Drake,Onyx Netherwing Drake,Violet Netherwing Drake,Blue Drake,Red Proto-Drake,Red Drake,Veridian Netherwing Drake,Onyxian Drake,Armored Blue Wind Rider,Celestial Steed

And although the Master Riding skill doesn’t specify, our previously non-100% speed ground mounts also got powered-up. So I’m adding in my Emerald and Turquoise Raptors back into the mix. Unfortunately, at least according to commenters on WoWhead, the buff does not apply to the Sea Turtle mount. Sad face.

Which mounts are you enjoying now with the speed-up? Alternatively for those of us who were still trying to complete What a Long, Strange Trip it’s Been in lieu of purchasing the Master Riding skill, I was happy to also see during my hiatus that the award of the Violet Proto-Drake still will award the Master Riding skill, even post-Patch 4.0.1. For those of you who missed the blue post announcement, view it in full after the break.

For the Hoard 13.3: The Monstrous Gahz’ranka

15 September 2010 | No Comments » | pixiestixy

Come with me on this finale to the Zul’Gurub episode of For the Hoard as I return to the soon-to-be-gone raid instance to summon Gahz’ranka, the optional fishing boss of the raid instance. The monstrous hydra beast can run, but he can’t hide!

For the Hoard 13.2: The Insanity of Hakkar

13 September 2010 | No Comments » | pixiestixy

In this episode of For the Hoard, I continue onward through Zul’Gurub, past the tiger mount-dropping High Priest Thekal, and up to Hakkar. This crazy ancient spirit is bad enough, but can I also survive through mind-controlled guildies?! This could be a tight one!
