Pet Battles Live on Mists of Pandaria Beta Servers

15 July 2012 | No Comments » | Heartbourne

One of the biggest new features for the new World of Warcraft expansion that looked as if it could have gone the way of the dance studio, aerial combat, or path of the titans has finally made its way into the beta. Players can now test out pet battles, using most of their existing non-combat pets as new “battle pets”. There are trainers who will train you in the ways of the Pet Battle for characters as low as level 5, and they can immediately embark on a “epic questline” to challenge and defeat the pet battle masters around the world. Pets are account-wide, meaning the pets you train on your main will be available on all of your alts at their current level.

I wasn’t able to test it very well, as the game crashes every time I try to engage in a pet battle, but some of the video footage out there looks pretty darn good (video via wowcrendor):

BioWare Rewarding Players for Free Character Transfers

6 July 2012 | No Comments » | iTZKooPA
What, I love animals...

Squeal!

BioWare is now rewarding players for transferring characters to qualified servers for free. Clearly a marketing ploy to help with the balance issue, but hey, as long as the marketing is rewarding paying subscribers who are we to be cynical? Oh, right.

Transferred characters are being rewarded with my Achilles heel; an incredibly cute in-game pet, the Gannifari. Oh, and I guess those people that want stuff that actually matter will enjoy the 25 Black  Hole Commendations to purchase high-level gear, or something. Whatever, look at the  Gannifari. How can you resist those eyes?!

Players can see if they qualify at the transfer page. Aside from selecting an appropriate server, accounts must be active by July 30 and not banned, obviously. Rewards will be mailed out at the close of August 7.

Global Agenda Two-Year Anniversary Celebration (Hint: There’s Free Stuff!)

1 February 2012 | No Comments » | Beararms

Every once in a while we celebrate great – and sadly, not so great – achievements in the MMOG industry. Today, we congratulate Hi-Rez Studios’ Global Agenda for turning two-years old. As most of you may know, Global Agenda is Hi-Rez Studios’ award winning Sci-fi MMO Shooter that was launched on February 1st, 2010. Since then Global Agenda has had over 1,000,000 registered players, over 12,000,000 PvE missions, and over 1,400,000 PvP missions. It’s been a bumpy road, with the game seeing multiple transitions, often for the better of the title, the company and the associated communities. In 2011 alone, GA made the transition to becoming a free-to-play MMOG, became the first of such games to launch on Steam, and saw its first completely free expansion the “Recursive Colony.”

Not one to miss an opportunity to celebrate its community, Hi-Rez Studios is offering a special thanks for playing the game to new and old players alike. Securing the awards is simple, play in any instanced PvE or PvP matches this week, January 30th to February 6th, and you will receive a limited edition pet, a miniature edition of the boss Switchblade. The second gift takes a bit more to earn, as in you actually have to do something. Players that participate in the special player-managed PvP tournaments will receive a dragon-themed helmet in celebration of the Year of the Dragon. The winning team of the tournament will receive exclusive flair and even a cash prize! If that isn’t enough for you, Hi-Rez has even added appearance and flair item from the past to the ‘Burning Fashion’ vendor in Dome City, so get them at a discount while you still can!

Global Agenda has reached a grand milestone for any MMOG. If you haven’t tried Global Agenda there’s no better time than now to give it a whirl. It’s free, so what’s stopping you?!

Once again, Happy Birthday to you, Global Agenda, and congratulations on the achievement Hi-Rez. We hope the next two more years are even better. I would have sent you guys a cake, but I didn’t know what flavor you guys would have liked. So I just ate it.

Patch 4.2 Firelands Raid Official Preview

28 April 2011 | 5 Comments » | Amatera

Beth'tilac, "The Red Widow" is one of the first bosses you will encounter in The Firelands.

Yesterday’s videos were only the beginning of Blizzard’s Patch 4.2 coverage. According to Bashiok, here’s the line-up for the next few days:

4/28

  • “The Firelands” Raid Preview
  • “A Legendary Engagement” Legendary Staff Preview
  • “The Regrowth and Molten Front Quest Hubs”
  • BlizzCast 16

4/29

  • “Elemental Bonds” Quest Preview
  • Tier 12 Teaser

5/2

  • Dungeon Journal Teaser (Ama’s note: This is the integrated boss info thing they talked about wanting to implement at BlizzCon 2010).

As of this writing, only the first item on the list has been released, but it’s arguably the most exciting. The official boss descriptions (including hints as to their fight mechanics) follow my own summation of the features culled from both the official preview and an interview Cory Stockton recently did with Buffed (there’s even more info here, it’s worth reading in its entirety):

  • Seven bosses (including Ragnaros), the first four of which can be tackled in non-linear fashion.
  • No hidden or optional bosses, but Ragnaros’ Heroic fight is vastly different from his Normal one (indications that this will be the only way to see his entire body).
  • The raid instance will be about the size of the Alterac Valley sub-zone, and will take place mostly outside, so that players can mount up and attempt to bypass some of the mobs wandering about.
  • There will be more UI elements such as bars and meters to better track what bosses are doing, instead of having to always keep an eye on the debuff box. Also, there will be no fire resist required in the instance (and the bosses won’t have it, either).
  • “Dragonwrath, Tarecgosa’s Rest” is the new Legendary Staff. It will have an offensive proc, take a long time to make, and require a few non-raiding efforts from the rest of your guild. Completing the staff will reward you with the item, a lengthy cinematic event, and everyone in your guild (presumably of sufficient reputation) will also gain access to a unique vanity pet.
  • Other dungeon rewards include the requisite Tier 12 gear, Epic recipes for all professions, and three new mounts (flaming Anzu likely being the rarest/most wanted).

Onto the boss descriptions! Continue Reading

Fallen Earth Releases The Hounds

20 April 2010 | No Comments » | iTZKooPA

A deep discount on one of the best MMOGs from 2009 not enough to get you interested in Fallen Earth?  Perhaps a brand-spanking-new puppy will tip the scales further?

Fallen Earth, LLC announced the addition of Wasteland Mutts a few moments ago.  The cute post-apocalyptic canines are available throughout Sector 1-3 and can be purchased from Fuel and Feed merchants for “about 500 chips.”

It’s worth noting that the announcement cautions players from getting to attached: “But don’t get too attached, we hear other variants still exist in Deadfall!”  I wonder if the warning about “other variants” is for good, or ill.

Something in high demand being added to the game for free?  Blasphemy!

Nope, not holding a grudge at all.
