Today, patch 1.3 hits the live realms for all regions. The patch brings a few bug fixes and balance changes, as well as a much improved custom game interface and implementation.
Perhaps the most important part of the patch is the locking of the ladder divisions – players will not be able to be placed, promoted, or demoted for the remainder of the season. Season 1 is ending next week, so you don’t have to wait long if you aspire to a higher league. Additionally, no more bonus points will be accumulated.
For the rest of the season, players can attempt to rank up within their divisions. Blizzard has added “milestones“, which are additional graphical rewards for performing well. In addition to the “medals” you get for placing in a league, additional decorations will be added to the medal based on your placement in the league. If you place in the top 50 in your division at the close of the season, you will receive a small decoration along the bottom of the medal. Top 25 players will obtain decorative wings on their medal, and top 8 players will gain a star. Season 1 standings and rewards will be snapshotted and archived, and players will need to play only a single placement match for season 2 if they played in season 1. Season 1 rewards and data will be viewable in player’s profiles.
The Grandmaster league is also added in the new patch, limited to the top 200 players in a region. They will have milestones for the top 200, 100, 50, and 25 players. Players are locked in per season and are removed for inactivity. It seems that players qualify from the previous season and are only added in if someone was removed for inactivity and the system calculates they were the next highest ranked person with a small enough bonus pool.
