I must apologize to anyone who likes to read these, life seems to be conspiring to prevent me from writing on Fridays. I thought it’d be the easiest day to write, but no! Anything than can possibly go wrong – goes wrong on Fridays. Isn’t that supposed to be limited to Friday the 13th? but I’m here today with a ton of news and information for anyone who missed the week’s happenings.
It’s been a decently busy week here at LoreHound, preparations for Gamescon have begun. So there will be videos to watch in a few weeks, once iTZKooPA has gone and returned, and everything is compiled for viewing. I’m excited, I wish I could go, too! Grab some swag, chat with devs, pop advil like candy to combat the noise … actually the gel coated variety does taste like candy. I used to go to 3 or 4 a year when I lived in NYC, but haven’t since I moved to an area that is dead on the convention front. I just love conventions! Failing being able to go myself, I love watching the interviews. We’ve got some goodies this week, giveaways, rumors, launch date confirmations and the new date for Planetside 2‘s beta. And don’t forget The Secret World is open for anyone to play this weekend! Drop on in and give it a whirl!

The Secret World has a pretty ambitious content plan – every month there will be the addition of new content! Makes me very pleased I have a lifetime subscription. I definitely think it’ll be awesome if they keep it up. The very first issue, Unleashed, has just gone live. It contains 7 new missions, including new investigations, 2 new nightmare dungeons, the long awaited auction house, new clothes, bug fixes, and more. I’m excited and can’t wait to see it! To read the official highlights from the patch notes, visit Tarib’s Server Update highlights.
Even more exciting, there is an in game event planned for this weekend to celebrate the first month! They’ll be giving away Funcom points to anyone who completes 30 missions between Aug 3-7th, fireworks to celebrate, and gametime to anyone who wants to play. Yep, you read that right – anyone will be able to give TSW a try over the weekend. Been curious about the game but not willing to drop the cash to check it out? Now’s your chance! Hop on over, read the details, and join me in game!

TSW Addon Spotlight is a weekly series about addons in The Secret World. Every week I will examine an addon and discuss what it brings to the game.
I’ve said it before – I’m an addon junky. In every game that I play, if addons are possible, I can easily spend as much time – if not more – tweaking addons than I do actually playing. My first foray into addons was with Morrowind many years ago. I still remember something someone on the modding forums said back then – wait, you mean there’s a game beyond the construction set? I remember laughing as I read that, because it was so true. I did spend more time in the construction set than I spent actually playing. I’d love to spend as much time creating addons for The Secret World as I did for Morrowind, but unfortunately I’m inept when it comes to code. My mods have all been new clothing, heads, hairstyles, and quests. I’d love to design clothing for The Secret World, but most MMOs don’t allow user created art assets, and TSW is no different, so I am forced to focus on addons for the UI. Today’s Spotlight is all about the team experience.

TSW Addon Spotlight is a weekly series about addons in The Secret World. Every week I will examine an addon and discuss what it brings to the game.
Before MMORPGs, there were MUDs, MUSHes, and door games. Does anyone remember Essex MUD, Mirrorworld, Legend of the Red Dragon? Sceptre of Goth, Realm of Angmar or GemStone? Have I dated myself by even asking that? Long before I had these amazingly massive online games to play, I was RPing with books and dice, and every now and again dialing in to my favorite bbs on my trusty old modem. Those were Ye Olden Days when it took all night just to download a few megs – while I have a great deal of nostalgia for games that were actually difficult, I definitely don’t miss those download speeds! But when it comes to RP, I find MMORPGs to be severely limiting in scope, and still prefer tabletop gaming. But The Secret World has managed something no other MMORPG has – I’ve actually been looking into TSW RP. Today’s Addon Spotlight is for the RP crowd – Acenth’s TSWRP.

This week is slow as I wake up… due to various happenings, my schedule is almost reversed this week and I’m finding myself eating breakfast at 2 in the afternoon. I’ve never minded being a night owl, but it is sad that I’ve been missing my gaming buddies all week and having to play it solo.
It’s another week that heralds both a death and a birth. It seems as though there’s been quite a few server shutdowns lately, I wonder is it an over-saturated market or just bad games? Either way, it still makes me sad. Every game, no matter how bad it is, has someone, usually someones, who worked hard to try and bring it into the world, and I’ve never seen a game that didn’t have at least one person who enjoyed it. I’ll kill a few zombies in TSW in honor of this week’s dying game.

I’d originally intended to write a weekly series about different builds, a sort of “build of the week” that went into various possibilities for various circumstances. There are, however, already a million sites and threads in forums up about that, not to mention the various sites devoted to character building and theory crafting. While I’m a big subscriber to the “but it’s not been done by me” method of writing, I know my limits and I’m really not sure I have all that much new and interesting to offer in that field. So welcome to my new new weekly series – the TSW addon spotlight!
I love addons. I love tweaking my games just exactly to my likes and tastes, and I usually have tons and tons and tons of addons in the games I play – actually I won’t even consider playing an MMORPG that doesn’t allow addons. I have as much fun customizing my games as I do actually playing them, so I am watching the slowly growing stable of addons for the Secret World with absolute delight. I hope the modding scene for TSW remains vibrant and active!

It’s been a busy week! The Secret World continues to keep me entertained, as can no doubt be seen in all the blurbs I put up about it. Next week I’ll be putting up the second and final section of my review, as well as starting a weekly TSW-related article. I’ve flopped around on it so much, but I think I’ve finally decided what I’ll be focusing on! Huzzah! So stay tuned for that, if you like reading what I have to say or The Secret World. Or both. I’m good if you like both of these things. I may even do two, if there’s enough interest.
This week brought more SMITE divine lore, tons of interesting things for The Secret World, musings on stocks and CEOs, as well as a contest, a giveaway, and some interesting opinions! Click the button below to check it all out!
