Eve Online has just released an announcement about its Repair Tool. What is this Repair Tool you are obviously asking? Now, when installing Eve Online, it also creates a Repair Tool shortcut on your desktop.
“The repair tool is mainly thought of as a backup if patching fails, as patch days can be very hectic where tens of thousands of players hit our file servers all at the same time. For a small percentage of our player base, patching the game client in some cases simply fails under these conditions. Now, if a patch fails midway, instead of having to download the entire game and reinstall, the repair tool can fix the problem faster and more efficiently. It will pick up where the patcher left off and close the deal, updating EVE Online to the latest and greatest.”
The new Repair Tool was built from the ground up and primarily uses a technology called Zsync to get the job done. Zsync finds out-of-date or corrupt files and calculates what data is correct and what isn’t. From there, it downloads the necessary data and fixes the problem. Shazam! This is a welcome change from the old Repair Tool that simply downloaded the entire file that may be corrupted, making for some slow down and other issues.
Currently, the Repair Tool only works for Windows, but the team is working on a Mac update pronto.
