A new update from Tasos Flamboura, one of the producers of Darkfall, was posted on the Darkfall blog today talking more about Darkfall 2.0 and the possibility of a character wipe. Still no word yet about whether Darkfall 2.0 will have a character wipe, but it seems likely. Tasos stated,
There were concerns about wipes: We’ve considered wipes on various levels…. the way things will work in the new version, it would not be as necessary to wipe, but wiping would also not be as drastic as it would be in the current version.
We’ll there you have it, maybe, or a partial wipe. Perhaps you’ll be able to keep all you items and weapons but your stats will reset, who knows.
Tasos also mentions that current Darfall subscribers will not have to purchase Darkfall 2.0 which will be available for free. Current players will also have priority in playtesting and in a developer interaction groups about the new game, as well as get to participate in the major events that conclude the first chapter of Darkfall.
Just leaving the door open to wipes means it will be wiped. They just want current play(testers) to keep paying, leaving the half-lie in place.
See you Darkfall 3.0, after Darkfall 2.0 is wiped.
Doesnt mean anything at all. Its open for discussion and Im sure they will make the best decision. Im all for a wipe. Would be nice to see everyone on the same page for a while, but Im against it at the same time, Id hate to redo all of what Ive done the past 2 years but, either way Im going to keep playing.
A character wipe would not be so bad. A lot of players have maxed they’re characters and are just about to re-role their characters anyways. And a lot of players played Darkfall then followed their guild mates to other games. Then some of those who did went back to Darkfall and of course were far behind other guildmates in leveling their Darkfall toons.
And then there is the matter of wasting a lot of time and gold leveling some skills they no longer want or need and would do differently.
A lot of NEW players who would play Darkfall 2.0 might not do so if everyone doesn’t start out evenly and I think Aventurine is counting a lot on new Game sales and subscriptions .
