More Guild Wars 2 Details: Mini-games, Music, and Travel

The folks at ArenaNet have been very forthcoming over the last couple of weeks with details about Guild Wars 2, and they continued that trend today by posting a new player Q&A. Designers John Stumme and Ben Miller took on the topics of mini-games, player-created music, and map travel.

Guild Wars 2 will have the same sort of holiday mini-games as GW classic, although the games will be souped up for the new game engine. Another GW favorite will also be in the sequel: Polymock! In fact, Stumme goes on to say that while their original concept for Polymock couldn’t be realized in the first game, Guild Wars 2 will have it in a “a more robust implementation”.

Stumme goes on to say that GW2 will feature a “a giant festive jukebox” in the form of a one-man band in a town square. The “band” will take requests, play for crowds, and apparently shoot out a lot of festive confetti.

Guild Wars 2 devs have also been clearly putting a lot of thought into map travel, in this case with the use of waypoints. Ben Miller explains that while they haven’t exactly calculated the area’s size, “… on average the maps are larger than Guild Wars maps, so the game world you experience (in GW2) is much larger.” Players will be able to travel around the map via waypoint travel for a small in-game fee.

It seems to MMOCrunch that ArenaNet and the Guild Wars 2 team are putting a lot of thought into this game, and we can’t wait to read about more features!
