At the recent Citi Tech Conference which took place this past Wednesday, Electronic Arts CFO Eric Brown mentioned some information about the release date for Star Wars: The Old Republic. He states that while EA expects to launch the title before the end of 2011, EA’s ‘fiscal guidance’ may cause a delay into the first calendar year of 2012. The full quote via Gamasutra is below.
The company still expects the MMO to launch this calender year, but EA’s fiscal guidance takes into account a possible slip into first calendar quarter of 2012 (fiscal Q4) if needed, Brown said. “We have a date set internally [for calendar Q4], with a lot of assumptions around it,” he said.
“We’re not done until we’re done. … We’re not going to know with enough certainty to publicly announce a release date,” until later this month or sometime in October, said Brown of the MMO.
Not good news for fans who are awaiting the release of this highly anticipated MMORPG. This is the second indication of delay this week, with BioWare announcing on Thursday that beta weekends might be canceled for the rest of September while they prepare the next round of beta tests.
NoOOooOOOoo!
You suck booooooooo! Screw this game, they alway delay it. I want my my pre-order money back
Really? “possible”
Stephen Reid just said still on track holiday 2011.
Lets not cause people to freak out like the two above me, ok author?
Stephen Reid said that they still aiming for 2011 Holiday release. Additionally the first beta weekend went good and a new game build is being deployed atm. This is the reason for the cancelled beta weekend.
This is ridiculous. I knew this would happen. Ive never seen anything like the B.S that surrounds this game.
@Pat, then you’ve obviously never watched an MMO release before.
@Pat… list your software development experience for me. $100 says you have none.
You’re like a fat spoiled kid at a restaurant, you want your food and you want it now. No allowance for the fact that hey, food takes time to actually cook! Say nothing of making it enjoyable.
Bioware is known for some amazing games. Some of my favorites. Rather than put out a shit title, they’ll put out a good title when it’s ready. Not before. So suck it up, princess.
@Really?
I resent ur implication that fat kids are spoiled… yes this individual is like a spoiled kid, but you can hardly compare him to a fat person… even if u are trying to fit it into ur little scenario, u bitch
I look forward to playing with you happy people when the game is released :)
I’m content waiting for it if the gameplay is going to be as fun as I expect it to be
lol they begin to act like blizzard saying the unwanted “Coming Soon” (search soon in blizzard wiki)
nooooooooooooooo
If I am not logged in and playing this game by midnight, December 31st, I will not be playing it period, ever. I will wait for GW2, who has no been stringing us a long and missing dates repeatedly. That is my solemn OATH.
This summation is rather flawed in that it assumes the “fiscal guidance” creates causation for the game to slip to the right. Thats not what its saying at all.
What he is saying is that they have their forecast set up in such a way that they are prepared JUST IN CASE the game does slip to the right, into Q1 next year. In forecasting, you forecast what you think will happen but have assumptions and backstops in case it doesn’t.
Listen to all the haters out here, expecting it now. Okay, say they release the game now, or when you ‘expect’ it. If it’s not completely bug free, you’ll complain about it. Even if it releases later, it will still have bugs in it, but they need to make sure that the game is playable NOW, not after release. The longer we wait, the better the quality of the game. Giving them as much time as they need is the best thing you can do for them and for the game to be enjoyable. This is a HUGE undertaking, and I’m sure once completed, the game will be worth the wait.
