Since leaving the world of Middle Earth, (LORTO) I’ve been 0-2 in my quest for a new MMORPG to play. I first tried Tabula Rasa which was actually fun for the first month, but didn’t really do it for me and boredom quickly set in. Up next was Age of Conan and we all know how that turned out. To be honest I had more fun playing the Mythos beta than I did with either one of these games, too bad that a finished Mythos will never see the light of day. Which brings me to Warhammer Online, which is set to be released in about a week.
Now, with the resent disaster that is AoC, I’m not sure I want to jump in there on day one. We all know that 99% of MMORPGs are pretty much fucked on opening day with people unable to activate their games, last min patches, server crashes, lag and whatever else, so I definitely will be waiting at least 2-3 days before picking up my copy. Not being in the open beta, I don’t have any impressions on how polished the game is. I remember in the AoC beta I was waiting for another announcement saying they were going to delay the game cause it was so messed up, but to my suprise there was none. I just assumed there was another build of the game that was better than beta, guess not. Good call Failcom. But from what I’ve read about War Online, it seems to be on the right track. Who knows, the game might actually be ok to play on day one. Here’s to hoping.
I found Warhammer to be easily the most polished mmorpg ever in beta stage. It;s more polished in beta then most mmorpgs are 6 months to a year after release.
Really looking forward to this one after going thru thesame mmos as u did in a quest to find the “new home” ;)
0-2 only? Try 0-9 or so like I am. Happened after I left WoW, and LOTRO was a victim in the loss column. Could be worse, look at it that way!
Better get in on day one. I would, its a chance to start over, kinda like the Ed Norton Hulk movie
I played the beta and was impressed by the opening sequence and the tutorial tips. The character generator is poor but I’ve heard that we’ll be wearing helmets and such so it won’t matter. Well, that’s no excuse. The UI was well organized and easy to figure out. I liked the quest givers and how they interacted with me. I hate that they didn’t invent new types of quests so grinding as in WoW is still in vogue. The animation were poor including the graphics, a notch above WoW only. There’s also an incredible need to polish the game and improve performance.
I will check in on the game from time to time but have no plans to buy it.
A game from the same stables of DAoC is going to be good. And having played the beta, I’m liking what I see. It’s the first time I’ve been involved in a Beta and got a very positive buzz from it … at least the first time since the WoW beta.
The only thing that’s a let down is the texturing, but as far as I understand, that has been minimised to keep the beta client down in size. Turbine did it for DDO and LotRO. I guess Mythic have learned from that.
I reckon WAR will be a success. It won’t be a WoW killer (lets face it, with years of highly successful marketing, development and tweaking, nothing can kill WoW except WoW itself), but it brings a lot more to the MMO table than WoW did on it’s opening day.
I’m finding it really hard to figure out how everyone that is playing the WAR Open Beta can be so blind to the amount of bugs it has. I realize that it is a beta, and therefore allowed to have bugs, but if WAR releases in the state it is now, it’s launch is going to be very sub-par. It will be under reviewed and possibly even take the same path as AoC (although I really hope this doesn’t happen). I just hope Mythic know what they are doing and get the bugs ironed out before release.
War is awesome. It is very polished. It has a great combo of pvp and pve. War is actually releasing in 3 stages. 1- Collector edition, 2- preorders, and finally everyone else.
I believe they will ahve plenty of time for a good release. Have faith.
And here I am just not impressed.
I think the majority of people who loved WoW, and have played WoW within the last 6 months will LOVE WAR.
It does not suck, but it sure is the same old mechanics.
The UI also is nice, but a little too cluttered. So make sure to arrange those items.
Combat is ungodly slow.
Took me 1-2 minutes to beat a level 2 wolf when I was level 1. That to me is TOO slow.
So if you are ok with long drawn out fights even at level 1 or 2, then this game is for you.
I guess I will be one of the people who will hold out for more innovation and less stagnation…my new motto.
