Confession: I Remember My Girlfriend’s Birthday Based On Pop Culture References

Shortly over two years ago, I started dating a nice lady that many readers would recognize as Ms. iTZKooPA.  We just so happened to get serious weeks before her birthday, so her entry into this world came up in our early (awkward) conversations.  Once I found out the specific date of her arrival I instantly locked it in to the vault.

“10 days after The Dark Knight comes out,” I told her with a toothy grin.  She stopped chewing her morsel of food.  A glare was returned across the table.

Amazingly enough, we went out again after that!

The sad fact is, that’s exactly how I remembered her birthday for a full year.  It was tied to The Dark Knight’s release, plan and simple to me.  I’m sure some people out there are cringing.  “How could he be so insensitive!?”  “What a twit!”

Fear not, the mental tie between The Dark Knight and my princess was eventually broken.
Broken by release date of Wii Sports Resort in July 2009, a paltry two days before her birthday.  Wondering why Wii Tech Demo 2 was so interesting to me?  Simple, I love entertaining and those games are playable by anyone.

This year there’s another sheriff in town, StarCraft II, a day before the festivities.  I specifically told her that I may be busy for her birthday.  You know, because of work…

Does anyone else pin birthdays to other “important” dates?  Or am I just a horrible human being?

  1. How on Earth is remembering someone’s birthday horrible? I don’t see why it would be considered rude; I mean people write their loved ones birthdays on calenders and such, and that’s basically the same, only your calender is based on release dates and is in your head! It’s maybe not the best thing to mention in terms of a looking ‘cool’ perspective, but otherwise in my opinion, you sir, are a genius!
Playing Starcraft II *cough cough* I mean working, isn’t as acceptable, but I hope she understands for your sake. =P

Well done on two years and I hope you are remembering Ms. iTZKooPA’z birthday with movie/gaming release dates for many years to come!

  2. Just broke up with my girlfriend of 1 1/2 years. Gotta suck.

I remembered her birthday because it was the last day of school for me.

  3. Haha, hilarious. How many people out there forget all together? Who cares how you remember, as long as you do.

  4. Mordil :C You make me feel sad saying things like that…unless it wasn’t your fault, but that’s none of my business
