Entropia Universe: Planet Calypso New Area for New Players

Entropia Universe’s Planet Calypso by First Planet Company, which boasts itself as “the largest real cash economy MMORPG,” has created a new way for beginning players to access this interesting, free-to-play MMO.

Calypso Gateway is the latest update to the game. “For many years those arriving on Calypso have started their new life on the busy streets of Port Atlantis, left with nothing but their bare hands and an orange jumpsuit. They have had a world of possibility to explore but at the same time the experience can prove daunting and overpowering. This new addition to Calypso changes all of that.”

Calypso Gateway appears to be a more user-friendly way to investigate the game and get into the action with its simple tutorial based style. Entropia Universe and its starting zone of Planet Calypso was criticized for having a steep learning curve that threw off many gamers. Calypso Gateway is a much more inviting way to start the game. Players now start on a secluded island that offers several introductory missions which lead to some good starting equipment and a way to generally familiarize players with the more complicated aspects of the game like the Real-Cash-Economy. However, be warned, once players take the one way teleporter to the main area of Planet Calypso, they can never go back.

About this Real-Cash-Economy: “Its innovative real money economy uses a virtual currency which has a fixed exchange rate with the US dollar. This allows players to deposit and withdraw real funds for their adventures on Calypso or in the real world.”

Added to this unique system, Entropia Universe’s Planet Calypso is also the first MMORPG to use CryTek’s stunning CryENGINE 2 for cool graphics and physics.

  1. I’m imagining that once you take that teleporter all that good gear vanishes, or even if you keep it, it degrades rapidly until your in threadbare skivies again?

I don’t know how they got people to pay when their introductory sequence is to stand around, trying to drain sweat off monsters (yes, you collect sweat – epic!) then run away for a minute till an auto gun kills the monster (can you fight one! Oh heck no, that requires you to pay!)

Just incredibly boring gameplay, even by mmorpg standards – I’m sure they could do better while enticing you to pay them money? Runes of magic managed it.

  2. * When their OLD introductory sequence was to stand around, draining sweat…
Should note that – hopefully the new island has some fun play. Though as I said, I suspect you go back to threadbare sweat sucking afterward.
