After seven years with Cryptic Studios and two years with Star Trek Online, Executive Producer Craig Zinkievich announced today that he has decided to “take a break for a bit”. According to his public letter, Zinkievich wants to take some time to be with his family and enjoy the summer.
Zinkievich was an enthusiastic advocate for STO and known for his solid line of communication with the player base. A confirmed Star Trek fan, he said about his recent work, “I still can’t believe how lucky I was when it became my responsibility to help make STO a reality. I’m often asked in interviews or online, “Isn’t your job the coolest job ever?” Yes, yes it is.”
Zinkievich will be replaced by Daniel Stahl, previously a Game Producer for Star Trek Online.
The announcement ended with the departing executive wishing for all the players and producers of STO to “Live Long and Prosper,” which are of course perfectly fitting final words. Good luck in your future endeavors, Craig!
‘Take a break for Summer’ is a euphemism for ‘shit-canned’ isn’t it?
I know I’d much rather ‘walk my goat’ then be the one at the helm of STO…..Star Trek fan my arse! He butchered it. One of the worst MMO’s to come out in recent years…after Alganon of course….
“Taking a break for the summer” DOES sound a little like executive-speak. I’m surprised that STO hasn’t done better than it has.. the intellectual property source was pretty rich.
