Guild Wars 2 Beta & Launch Details Revealed

ArenaNet is embracing the Lunar New Year, which is today and according to the Asian zodiac system is the first day of the Year of the Dragon. The dragon embodies passion, independence and ambition which is something that ArenaNet can related to with what they’ve accomplished with Guild Wars 2.

To celebrate the Lunar New Year, ArenaNet has revealed their plans for beta testing and has officially announced that Guild Wars 2 will be released in 2012.

We recently finished our first closed beta test, and we’re now ready to hold progressively larger events. In February we’ll invite select press to participate in beta testing, and in March and April we’ll aggressively ramp up the size of our beta test events so that many of you will have a chance to participate. And of course, this all leads to the release of Guild Wars 2 later this year.

It seems closed beta testing will last at least to April, with open beta and the launch to follow. No hints were dropped as to when GW2 might launch, but it will definitely be in the second half of 2012. Can’t wait!

  1. Yep, 2012.12.31 at 11pm and 59min, GW2 goes live. What a b..s…! A game from 2010, got revamped twice[race re-design&LORE], got postponed because of this for like 1 year, maybe even more.

    Now, an april release seems unlikely. Guess Tera or anything in between NOW and GW2 Launch get´s my money. To be honest with you, ONCE you have explored the GW2 world, only the “new fps-pvp” and the WvWvW will attract some or not.. nothing new really.

    Sidekick feature, Age of Conan has this too.
    Crafting with 2 or more tiers, Lord of the Rings Online has this too.
    WvWvW = DaoC

    What is new then? The FPS-PvP and for a few weeks a new world to explore.

    Do you really want to wait for a game, that initially was planned to see the light in 2011.. a game, based on an engine from 2010 or earlier… no dx11?

    Im a GW Vet, from 2005. Played the E3 demo [3 day weekend demo]. I want more, i need more. GW2 is just another game, enough fun for few weeks until the same “issue” hits the player.

  2. What excites me about the game

    –strong attempt at rethink all the basics of building an mmo
    — great crafting
    —-and most importantly server vs server conflict
