Guild Wars 2: Gamescom Memories

Oh, what I would have given to be shipped over to Cologne, Germany to take part in the hack-n-slash mayhem that was the Guild Wars 2 demo. Since the very first day, fans were “literally running to the demo stations in the mornings when they opened the doors!” At Gamescom, Guild Wars 2 won the prestigious “Best Online Game” award, and in doing so, cemented it’s place as a frontrunner in the upcoming slew of next-gen MMOs (like we didn’t know that already).

NCSoft employees who weren’t able to make it out to Gamescom stayed up all night playing online with fans at the demo booth. Many epic battles were had, each with unique aspects that just scream replayability and immersion. Visit ArenaNet’s blog post to read up on each of the individual experiences. One demo player recounts a particularly memorable experience:

“About half way through the fight, it looked like we were doomed as the dragon was literally wiping the floor with us. Suddenly, about 20 more players came rushing over the hill to our aid, manning mortar cannons and casting spells to help take out the beast. I have no idea where these players came from but it sent a shiver down my spine. The whole experience felt like something from a blockbuster fantasy film.”

Guild Wars 2 plans to take their show to Seattle next, to make an appearance at PAX Prime, September 3rd-5th. Also, if you’re curious to see what the party was like, take a look at ArenaNet’s Flickr page.

  1. “NCSoft employees who weren’t able to make it out to Gamescom stayed up all night playing online with fans at the demo booth.”

This should say “ArenaNet employees”. NCSoft is only the publisher, ArenaNet is developing the game and their employees were up all night playing with fans, not NCSoft.
