NCSoft Buys App Developer Hotdog Studio

It seems NCSoft wants in on the mobile MMO market and today announced they have purchased a South Korean mobile game studio, Hotdog Studio, which is best known for its mobile RPG Dark Shrine.

It was reported via Gamasutra that NCSoft has purchased a 58.3% share of the studio giving it full control over the company. NCSoft has launched apps before with the Aion Exchange app which allows players to manage their Aion characters and other components through their phones and plans to have a strong mobile component for their upcoming MMO Guild Wars 2.

As it seemed that NCSoft is already fully capable of creating apps for its current MMO titles, it’s only logical to think their’s more to this purchase then creating apps for its already established MMO games. I think it’s much more likely this purchase was for the intent of getting a foothold in the MMO mobile market and I wouldn’t be surprised if NCSoft announced something to that affect in the next few months.
