SWTOR: Free Game-time for Everyone…Mostly

To help celebrate update 1.2, BioWare is giving all current and previous Star Wars: The Old Republic players some free game-time.

Current players, who have a level 50 character, get 30 free days added to to their accounts. The 30 free days begins as soon as their current subscriptions expires, but be careful, because it will automatically resubscribe you after the 30 free days are up if you don’t cancel before than.

I nice gesture, but a bit underhanded as well, as I’m sure quite a few people will forget to cancel it and start getting billed again. Of course everyone does it, not just EA or BioWare, but that doesn’t make it right. If you’re gonna give out 30 free days, just give out the 30 free days, don’t automatically start billing people again in-case they forget or quit long before then.

Past players, who no longer have active subscriptions, will receive 7 free days starting today and will last until April 21st, giving them a chance to check out update 1.2, without having to resubscribe.

  1. I totally understand but i still think “oh man i get 30 days for free but aw thats so lame i have to remember to cancel it if i dont want to continue playing” is just freakin funny.

  2. So for a game where it’s strongest point is to reroll and not rush, they give 30 free days to lvl 50 players only? I’m I the only seeing something wrong here…

  3. @Jorius lol I thought it was a little off too, ive sub’d to 2 months and still not hit 50. haha

  4. Your headline says “SWTOR: Free Game-time for Everyone” but that just isn’t true is it?

Your first paragraph reads “To help celebrate update 1.2, BioWare is giving all current and previous Star Wars: The Old Republic players some free game-time.”

    NOT TRUE.

Only some people get free game time. All the thousands of people who have played since launch but for whatever reason have not unsubbed or have not rushed to 50 get ABSOLUTELY NOTHING.

Lots of long term players canceling subs now, myself included.

  5. @Toxygene you’re right, it isn’t for everyone, so I updated the title.

On another note, I can’t believe there are some people who’ve been playing since launch and haven’t hit 50 yet. Leveling in SWTOR is so fast, its just hard to believe.

  6. I stopped actively playing SWTOR back in mid-february, even though my game time card lasted until the second week of march. I’m back now for only a week, and then this game goes right back on the list of “fun, but too grindy for me”. I won’t even go into all the various reasons this could be, as I’d rather not open up a massive can of “hateworms” or whatever..

  7. they need to make it. plain in simple! who has the money? oh right! I’m right! i forgot, I’m rich! i have a yacht, a mansion out by the ocean, and everything else you poor people don’t have!…..HAH! not in this life time, pal! i mean, it’s a really fun game, but really, who gonna have the money?

Some people might play differently than you, I hope you can see this. Not to mention that some people have many obligations outside the game, and have had little time to jump in, althought they have still been paying fo the game…

I’m lucky I unsubscribed just before they charged me for another three months. They won’t get me back until they reverse the decision, which means they likely won’t get me back. Great PR, Bioware.
