I’m not about to defend incnesisteocins, but this sort of criticism only applies to biblical literalism . ie the bible wasn’t written in english and while some things are to be taken literally, there is quite a lot of metaphor and symbolism and context in the bible, which is not always apparent when you quote.I’m critical here, because I think christians who quote-mine the bible are making a huge mistake. As such, this is valid criticism, but only of a certain fundie belief in the bible. This is why more scholarly types tend to talk of the bible as being inspired by god, as opposed to the word of god. That sort of belief requires a more scholarly sort of criticism.
