Another One Bites the Dust: Disney Closing Toontown & Pirates of the Caribbean Online in September

It’s unfortunate that Another One Bites The Dust exists, but necessary. This column chronicles the fateful announcements ahead of an MMOGs’ downfall, a company closure or, in some truly sad cases, both. Grab your Big Gulp and let some hit the floor for the fallen.

Sega and Gogogic had the unfortunate pleasure of announcing the upcoming closure of their latest effort Godsrule: War of Mortals. Launched in early 2013, and one of the titles we had Item Giveaways for, Godsrule is a free-to-play browser-based real-time strategy title set in a fantasy universe. Or it will be until it’s taken offline on August 29, 2013.

Holding a cheer-worthy 4.5 star rating for its iPad app, the closing of the Godsrules servers will likely upset some people. I will certainly miss checking in on my village and sending off minions to assault other players in the real-time PvP battles of land and resources.

The short notice means that in addition to closing purchases instantly, the game has had its free registration shuttered. Those that already have accounts can finish off their grudge matches, build that final building or pillage resources one last time. To ease everyone’s pain, players and developers, Sega will be playing alongside everyone as the game heads towards its sunset.
