Bioware has recently released some important information about its upcoming game Star Wars: The Old Republic. Crew Skills is the topic this time and I’ve found it to be very interesting. Let me explain.
When we play an MMO, in time, we become used to it, automating a lot of moves and knowledge about it. These kind of games are designed to last for years and, in fact, if a particular MMO is of your liking, you’ll end playing for months at least. After such a long time playing, the game begins to feel “short”, you need more content, more features, additions, classes, skills… it never ends and that’s one of the things we like, cause it feels like a gaming life, beyond reality. Anyhow, beside pet and companion basic systems (they follow you and attack what you attack) interaction with any kind of followers or companions is quite poor on every MMO, that’s why, apparently, Bioware wants to make a step further and bring a new way of interacting with the companion version of SWTOR, the Crew and the skills they have.
Crew companions will be on your ship, working all the time you want to. You can take one of them, to accompany on your mission, the rest will stay on the ship, working for you, even if you’re not online. This looks to be Bioware’s approach to the offline-leveling feature.
Crew Skills divide into three groups: Gathering skills, Crafting skills and Mission skills. Their names talk of themselves, except Mission skills, a quite original and new feature, letting you send one of your crew members to do a mission in your name.
Imagine you have three crew members. You start your playing session and decide to go on a quest but planning to look for resources as well. You can choose a crew member to go with you, another to stay crafting and the last to go on a mission in your name, bringing you rewards when returns, even. Sounds cool.
Have a look at this video, explaining the Crew skills system.

Now that sounds damn cool. About time someone tries to expand on this genre.
