DCUO: Fight for the Light DLC Announced

SOE today announced the first mini expansion for DC Universe Online called “Fight for the Light”, which will be a Green Lantern themed update.  I’m not surprised it being a Green Lantern themed content update, but I am surprised they didn’t line it up better with the release of the movie.

Fight for the Light will included a new Light powerset, as well as the ability for players to create their own Lantern based heroes and villains. The DLC will also add several new gameplay scenarios which are outlined below.

S.T.A.R. Labs – Deep within S.T.A.R Labs, Brainiac seeks to control experimental devices that will allow him to harness the power source behind the Lantern Corps’ rings. This attack throws the Lantern Corps into chaos, and players must join a fragile truce between the Green and Yellow Lantern Corps to bring the powerful devices back under STAR Labs control.

Coast City – Players must battle their way through the “City Without Fear” to Ferris Aircraft, the home of fighter ace Hal Jordan. Here they face the unbridled rage of the Red Lantern Corps in a showdown to save the city and the Universe.

Sciencells Prison – On the Green Lantern Corp’s home planet Oa, heroes will join with Guy Gardner to stop a prison break that threatens to release the most feared prisoners of the Green Lantern Corps.  Villains will fight alongside Sinestro as he attempts to release the Green Lantern Corps’ greatest foes and retrieve the evil Lyssa Drak from her emerald powered prison cell.

An official release date has not yet been announced other then sometime this summer and it will cost $9.99.

  1. i can’t believe they are gonna charge for this. they are several months behind on their regualar content updates, but they have a paid for expansion ready? what a joke.

take a page from champions online. they tried this crap at first. buggy game, little to no content, and then tried gouging their customers. the uproar caused them to change their minds and give the first update free. unfortunately, there will not be any major uproar in the dcuo forums, because those of us that were/are upset at the dirction the game has gone are no longer there to tell them what a hrrible idea it is (there are some, but most of those still there are fine with paying for something that should be free).

oh well. co and coh are free to play now, and swtor is coming. i had planned on going back to dc after some time to see how they were doing, but not if i have to pay for content to catch up.

  2. I was a pretty surprised they were going to charge $10 bucks for a content update as well. Aside from expansions, I can’t even remember the last game to do this.

    Seems greedy to me.

  3. Seems like their making up for all the money they lost when they got hacked!!
Already paying £10 to play it, now I gotta pay another £10 to get an update that should be free. JOKE!!!

  4. i think the is free to play now because i have been playing it since the PSN has came back on line and haven’t paid a cent, hell i haven’t paid anything for subscription since i bought the game actually now that i think about it. every now and then i’ll get a screen that says i have to renew my subscription to continue playing but i’ll just turn the game off and like 5 hours later i’m back online playing for free, so i dont mind paying $10 bucks for a dlc, and the new superman levels are pretty cool too.

  5. Well guys, why bi*ch bout the DLC,if you don’t want it don’t buy it. I like Dc Universe Online, it is a good game if you know how to play it. So why bi*ch if you don’t play!

  6. I don’t see why people keep calling this an update? they are adding more in the dlc then they did in any of the prior updates so to continue to say you won’t pay for an update is silly because you aren’t. Anyway I personally am looking forward to it I just hope they add a repowering token to the market with it so I can maybe change one of my 16 lvl 30 chars to Hardlight power tree instead of remaking. I absolutely hate running intro mission over and over.
