DOTA 2 Pushes Up Release Date

While still no release date has been set, today via the DOTA2 blog it was announced that Valve would be releasing DOTA 2 ASAP.

We’re going to take the current version of Dota 2, which has The International set of heroes, and get it out there as fast as we can.

The original plan was to wait until the number of heroes available equaled that to the original DOTA, but Valve decided their “original plan was dumb“. Along with the new plan, Valve has dropped the NDA allowing players in the closed beta phase to post and talk about anything they want.

Also mentioned was that closed beta would be ending soon, clearing the way for open beta.

We’ve still got some work to do in a couple of areas, so we’ll be keeping it invite-only for a (hopefully short) period of time.

So today we learned D3 is pushed back, Dota 2 is pushed up and STWOR is still twiddling their thumbs and saying nothing.

  1. My guess is this is likely because the new Dominion game mode for League of Legends will be out very shortly and they don’t want to lose out on the disgruntled LoLers.

LoL keeps growing more and more on a daily basis, and the longer DotA doddles, the harder it will be for them to grab a significant chunk of the MOBA market.

  2. Well, the game is STILL unreleased. Good news is that they have been actively working and improving the game. Plenty of bugs remain to be fixed and there are still a few heroes to be finished, but the game is definitely very popular and I think it will be more popular than LoL and HON.
