Last week, Hi-Rez’s Executive Producer Todd Harris posted a video blog about Global Agenda‘s newest addition, the Sonoran Desert. Unlike the majority of Global Agenda play fields, the Sonoran Desert will be an open zone. Hi-Rez Studios seeks to provide players with a sense of “place” in the game world, as you will finally be able to step outside of Dome City and into this vast, inhospitable landscape. The new zone will feature memorable storyline arcs, as well as a handful of NPC factions to interact or align with.
The Sonoran Desert map is quite expansive, taking considerable travel time from one end to the other – even with the aid of your jetpack. Even so, Harris emphasizes that every inch of the zone is worth exploring, as the team has carefully crafted and placed even the most minute details. To make for easier consumption and navigation, the map will also display sub-zones (though the entire desert will be persistent and open).
Mission givers will be placed throughout the area, with a new interaction system that allows the player to view the NPC and put a face to the words. Until now, players have been able to view a running total of other PCs in a zone before entering. In the Sonoran Desert, you can never know how many people are in the zone with you. Spontaneous encounters are planned (and encouraged), and we will be able to band together for the more difficult missions and opponents.
Keep an eye on the blog, and watch the video here.
