When I was younger I used to go to a friend’s house and play Magic: The Gathering and D&D. I’ve played all the Pokémon versions for the Game Boy and I’m currently paying 15 dollars every month to play a MMORPG. Yes, I am a geek and I’m so proud of being one.
A few years ago, I met her in my English institute. I still remember sitting in front of her, she looked gorgeous and not only that, but she was extremely smart too. She had an accent, a Spanish one, just like mine. It was love at first sight! I so wanted to talk with her, but I just couldn’t. You see, I’m quite shy so I wasn’t able to talk with her until 2 days before the course finished. The teacher chose partners for a little classwork. Of course, we ended up in the same group. That’s when I noticed something that I couldn’t believe.
“Is… is that an Alliance hoodie you’re wearing?”
Yes, the extremely gorgeous girl who I was too shy to talk with turned out to be an avid World of Warcraft player.
Who did I meet that day? I met the girl who would later become my girlfriend. It’s been almost 4 years now!
The Future Soon has always been one of my favorite Jonathan Coulton‘s songs. One day, a friend of mine told me to check out this video. I giggled. Mike “Spiff” Booth made such an amazing job to create a machinima that clearly translates what JoCo wanted to transmit when he was writing the lyrics for this song.
This video was created almost 4 years ago and was a finalist in the Action/Adventure category in the Blizzcon 2008 machinima contest. I’ve never stopped watching it, and figured the Lore Hounds wouldn’t mind it either.
Let me finish this article by paraphrasing Mike Booth when he wrote the description of “The Future Soon”.
All you jocks and cool kids beware. Because in the future, nerds will rule the world, and it’ll be the future soon…
That sentence is actually more true than most realize. In fact, it already is mostly true. Think about how much our world relies on technology and then you’ll see that geeks/nerds ALREADY rule the world. They just do it from behind computer screens.
Used to? You still should! If anyone comes up to me, or I go out to any of you, I will be bringing my M:TG and D&D stuff to play.
You play for life, or you don’t at all :P
I still play M:TG every once in a while. I mostly play with Mirrodin cards though.
D&D? It’s been a while.
I played a session of Pathfinder D&D (3.75) on Friday night. I play a Half-Elf Druid who’s True Neutral and mostly a pacifist.
I bought in just before Mirrodin and have quite a few of them. Kyle, from LiveCast, has bought so many boosters from Mirrodin Besieged that he owns about the all at least once.
I do need to rebuild my deck into an actual Milling deck, but I may fully invest into a Blue/Black Control..
i still play D&D Adv,2.0. and i still have my 500+ Magic cards, all my pokemon games(including the pinball) and i play warhammer 40k and warhammer fantasy on a by weekly basis. i work out of a van for a living and on my free time i taught myself computer programming and web design. so yes, i stand tall and proud that i am a NERD! (epic super hero stance, with fireworks and epic battle scene music plays.)
I’d still play MTG if I hadn’t moved away from my buddies I played with every Monday night. It’s a great card game that stands the test of time and I would pick it up again in a heartbeat. Most fun I had was everyone buying whatever booster pack(legit not that glued crap) they wanted and having a crazy draft with them.
If the online was cheaper or *gasp* free I would be playing that.
