MOBA Monday is a weekly showcase of how to perform, eh, let’s go with adequately – we hope – in a multiplayer online battle arena. The streaming squad features the hottest, upcoming or most interesting titles of their and the communities fancy for a few rounds of PvP shenanigans in our weekly Twitch channel staple.
Since its release earlier this year, the biggest argument that I face as a gamer who loves MOBA’s is whether or not Blizzard’s Overwatch is a MOBA. Some argue yes it is while others scream that it’s not! Our MOBA Monday game this week will be Overwatch and we’ll see if we can end this argument.
Overwatch is a first-person shooter multiplayer video game that focuses on team composition, teamwork and map awareness. It is composed of two teams of six who battle to secure locations on the map or protect and escort a payload depending on the map. There are four classes of heroes and each contributes a certain skill set to the team. You can change your hero during the match once you die if you feel that your team composition isn’t able to stand up against the other team.
My weekly objective with each MOBA I play is to focus on certain areas of the game in order to increase my skills as a player. This week the focus will be on hero selection and how to aptly use their abilities. Choosing a hero can be difficult especially in games where you need to align your own skills with your teammates. Not everyone can choose a support hero and not everyone can choose an offensive hero.
Join us tonight at 7:30PM to play some Overwatch over on Twitch! Let us know in the chat if you consider Overwatch a MOBA or not!
