Shadowrun Online on Kickstarter, Tweaks Business Model

Cliffhanger Productions is looking to take the Shadowrun universe online with, well, Shadowrun Online. The Company is in the midst of a Kickstarter campaign to drum up $500,000 for the title’s production. Currently just over $155,000 with 19 days to go, the company has radically altered the planned business model adding a Guild Wars method of buying the title and subsequent expansions to continue development.

Yes, adding the GW business model. Segregated by server types, SRO will have a cluster for F2P players, supported by microtransactions, and another cluster for the GW model, supported by purchase of the original game and expansions.

A $25 pledge will score you a digital version of the $39.99 title, Closed Beta access, a SRO wallpaper and access to the Campaign server. Should the funding complete, Cliffhanger Productions expects to have the game ready for a May 2013 release.

A single-player/cooperative game set in the Shadowrun universe is right up my alley. Time to open the wallet to Kickstarter once again.
