From the Greek to Hindu, each week we’ll look at two characters from a major pantheon and provide a quick recap of their history and in what capacity their digital incarnation will represent on the field of Hi-Rez Studios’ new MOBA.

Lore: Cabrakan is the undisputed giant and god of mountains. Born of the Maya hell god Vucub-Caquix and giantess Chimalmat, Cabrakan is not known for his good deeds. The life of Cabrakan was dedicated to the utter destruction of of everything that exists. This dastardly desire to decimate the world lead to his, and many other evil deities of Maya mythology, drawing the attention of the heroic twins Hunahpu and Xablanque.

The Maya Hero Twins had to use a different tact to save humanity from Cabrakan. Unlike their defeat of his father, Cabrakan’s mountain shaking power forced them to devise a new plan. Trusting their superior intellect, a true brains over brawn battle, the twins targeted the hunger of the mountain breaker. Gifting him with poisoned fowls the reaction resulted not in Cabrakan’s death, but a violent episode that collapsed the mountain around him burying the giant alive.

In-Game: Reading his lore you may have expected Cabrakan to be a warrior in SMITE. The designers went a different way, using his immense stature and power to craft a fearsome guardian. Sticking with magical guardians, Cabrakan uses immense shields to defend himself from incoming attacks while storing the energy to damage and stun those foolish to step into his path. His high defense, defensive abilities and magical damage make Cabrakan a guardian that should be feared as much for his combination of damage output and disables as his capability to stand and take one’s futile assault.

Cabrakan players should seek to increase his defensive capabilities with items that add to his magical damage and minimizes cooldowns. Think Void Stone. Death for Cabrakan should be rare due to the innate defense, added items and stellar crowd control to escape with. This makes snowballing items, like Hide of the Urchin, desirable and well paired with other token guardian items Bulwark of Hope and Breastplate of Valor.
