Death Himself Arrives in SMITE With Patch 0.1.1738 (and Hot Fix 0.1.1739.1)

Those of you in your later years (iTZKooPa) may want to stay away from SMITE from here on out. Hi-Rez Studios released Thanatos, essentially the Grim Reaper. As he screeches from the skies upon those who have run out of time, he instantly sends them on their way to Hades.

Thanatos is easily the most scary god, literally. Hi-Rez made sure there were plenty of creepy audio cues to his abilities and it does its job of instilling fear. Sadly, due to his toolkit and tuning out of the box – he will never see the light of day in competitive play.

Things of note this patch:

  • REGION LOCKING
  • Competitive “matchmaking” has been slightly reworked, and the ability to get into a ranked match is harder. See below for more details.
  • You can FINALLY sell Actives back provided you don’t use them or leave the Store pool.
  • Aegis Amulet received a cooldown reduction.
  • Lifesteal, Cooldown Reduction, and Critical Strike Chance all received buffs to their caps.
  • Arachne received a decent rework of her abilities in the form of scaling.
  • Odin became beastly with a decent buff to most of his abilities.
  • Other gods received decent changes (Bastet, Bakasura, Ao Kuang, Ymir, other Alpha/Closed Beta gods)

Thanatos

Harvester of Souls (Passive): Enemy gods within his ultimate’s execute threshold are revealed to Thanatos. Dealing the killing blow to enemies also empower Thanatos, granting him health based on the max HP of his target.

  • HP Restore (Minions): 10% of max HP
  • HP Restore (Gods): 20% of max HP

Death Scythe (#1): Thanatos flings his scythe at an enemy dealing damage and an additional 10% of the target’s current health against enemy gods. Enemies hit are slowed for 3 seconds and heal Thanatos based on damage dealt.

  • Consumes 10% of Thanatos’ max HP when used.
  • Damage: 100/170/240/310/380 (+60% of your physical power)
  • Bonus Damage (Gods): 10% of current HP.
  • Healing: 50% of damage dealt
  • Slow: 20%
  • Cost: 25/35/45/55/65 Mana
  • Cooldown: 13 seconds

Scent of Death (#2): Thanatos senses death, removing and gaining immunity to slow effects and gaining move speed and physical penetration for 6 seconds. His move speed bonus doubles when moving toward an enemy god within the instant kill threshold of his ultimate.

  • Consumes 5% of Thanatos’ max HP when used
  • Penetration: 15/20/25/30/35
  • Move Speed: 10/15/20/25/30%
  • Bonus Speed (Towards Low Health targets): 10/15/20/25/30%
  • Cost: 20/25/30/35/40 Mana
  • Cooldown: 13 seconds

Soul Reap (#3): Thanatos swings his scythe, dealing physical damage and silencing enemies he hits. Thanatos moves at a reduced rate while swinging.

  • Consumes 5% of Thanatos’ max HP when used
  • Damage: 100/150/200/250/300 (+80% of your physical power).
  • Silence Duration: 0.5/.75/1/1.25/1.5 seconds
  • Cost: 25/30/35/40/45 Mana
  • Cooldown: 15 seconds

Hovering Death (#4 Ultimate): Thanatos flaps his wings and goes airborne for 5 seconds, unable to be hit. During this time, he moves unimpeded with additional speed and can click to pounce to his target location, dealing damage. Enemies below a health threshold are instantly killed. All others are stunned.

  • Consumes 15% of Thanatos’ max HP when used.
  • Damage: 90/125/160/195/230 (+80% of your physical power)
  • Kill HP Threshold: 25/28/32/36/40%
  • Stun Duration: 1 second
  • Bonus Move Speed: 100%
  • Cost: 40/50/60/70/80 Mana
  • Cooldown: 90 seconds

Hot Fix 0.1.1739.1

  • Fixed an issue in which players’ Mastery Level was incorrectly displayed.
  • Cleaned up wording in several places in regards to new God Rank Levels.
  • Fixed an issue in which gods could not be rented.
  • Fixed an issue with the new Conquest Solo Master queue in which it was allowing teams. Rankings in this queue have been reset to account for abnormalities caused by this bug yesterday.
  • Ra’s Divine Light: An issue has been fixed in which the tooltip for this ability was incorrectly displaying a scaling value of 50% instead of the correct 40%.
  • Thanatos: Corrected on his #1’s tooltip to reflect that it deals damage based on max hp instead of current hp.
  • Fixed an issue in which Thanatos could get stuck in his ultimate.
  • Fixed an issue in which Thanatos could go invisible.
  • Fixed an issue in which the heartbeat sound could persist after a player restores his health.
  • Vulcan: Fixed an AI issue with turrets and the mana cost for Backfire has been reduced from 50/55/60/65/70 to 40/45/50/55/60.

Play menu and Match Queues:

  • All timed queues under NORMAL tab of the PLAY menu are now configured so that players will ONLY get matches within their preferred region. That is, people whose preferred region is North America will only get matches on North American servers (and Europeans will only get matches on European servers). At some off hours, players may find that they will get better matches if they switch to the other region.
  • The Mastery/Worshiper system has been revised slightly. You continue to reach Mastery Rank 1 at 100 Worshipers, but there are now three new ranks prior to Mastery Rank 1: Acolyte at 10 Worshipers, Neophyte at 25, and Adept at 50
  • The “Casual” tab on the PLAY menu has been renamed to “NORMAL”. The “COMPETITIVE” tab has been removed.

NEW QUEUE:

A new queue named “CONQUEST SOLO MASTER” has been added under the NORMAL tab of the PLAY menu. This queue is designed to provide the highest quality matches for experienced Conquest players. The queue has these requirements:

  • You must join the queue solo (you cannot join in a party).
  • In order to join the queue, you must have at least 12 Gods at ADEPT level (that is, you have at least 50 worshipers on 12 different gods). In the future this requirement may change to require 12 gods at Mastery Rank 1.
  • Once in the match lobby, you may only select gods for which you are at ADEPT level.
  • The queue uses draft mode, with one ban allowed per team.
  • God Trading is allowed in the match lobby, but only if both players have both gods at the correct mastery level.
  • Top 200 Player Rankings will be published for this queue.
  • For this queue, Worshiper rewards are increased by 20%
  • The newest god will still be banned for play in this queue through a “cooldown” period, usually one to two weeks.

General Changes:

  • Active items can now be sold for a full refund up until the point one of the following conditions is met: Haven’t left the Item Store or the item hasn’t been used.
  • A variety of minor usability improvements have been made to the Party Management system.
  • Fixed an issue in Arena in which players could get stuck behind the portals.
  • Fixed an issue where effects would disappear from player meshes when the mesh is hidden from camera penetration.
  • Visual effects for Recall have been improved to give an indication of when the base teleport will occur.
  • The stat caps have been increased for Cooldown Reduction (35% to 40%), Critical Strike Chance (80% to 100%), and Lifesteal (65% to 100%)
  • The god rotation has been changed to Anubis, Apollo, Arachne, Ares, and Hel.

Spectator:

  • Fixed an issue in which the wrong team would display on End of Match Screen

Active Items:

Aegis Amulet

  • The cooldown has been reduced from 240/180/120s to 180/150/120 seconds.
  • An issue has been fixed that now allows you to use Aegis Amulet while firing a channeled ability, cancelling the channeled ability and making you immune.
  • Now forces Guan Yu to dismount his horse when used while the ultimate is firing.

Blink

  • There is a new 3rd tier icon for this ability.
  • No longer usable when crippled.
  • The time required to be out of combat was not working as intended and was requiring players to be out of combat for 10/9/8 seconds before being able to use Blink.  This has now been fixed and now requires you to be out of combat for 5/4/3 seconds.

Combat Blink

  • No longer usable when Crippled.
  • The cooldown has been increased from 120 seconds to 180 seconds.

Creeping Curse

  • The 3rd tier of this item has been renamed to Weakening Curse and has a new icon.
  • The healing debuff has been increased from 50% to 100%

Eye of Providence

Tier 1

  • The cooldown for placing a ward has been reduced from 90 seconds to 60 seconds.

Tier 2

  • This now deploys a sentry ward instead of a normal ward.

Tier 3

  • This ward no longer requires line of sight to detect enemy players and wards.

Girdle of Might

  • The 3rd tier of the item has been renamed to Girdle of Support
  • The buffs for each tier have been changed:

  • The price has been increased from 150g to 200g.
  • The teleport no longer places you inside the tower.

  • An issue has been fixed where his basic attack was being considered a hard CC for checking against items like Magi’s Blessing.
PASSIVE – Enfeeble
  • All of Anhur’s spear attacks now reduce the enemy target’s physical protection by 15 instead of reducing the enemy target’s physical power by 15%

  • The cooldown on this ability has been reduced from 90 seconds to 80 seconds
  • The delay between the time that the ability is fired and the spirit starts hitting has been reduced by 0.2 seconds

  • The broodlings now start weaker with lower health pools and gain health later.

  • The base damage and healing of this ability has been reduced from 30/40/50/60/70 to 20/30/40/50/60. (-10/-10/-10/-10/-10)
  • The physical power contribution of the damage on this ability has been increased from 15% to 25% per tick. (+10%)
  • The physical power contribution of the healing on this ability has been increased from 5% to 10% per tick. (+5%)
  • Fixed an issue where she could attach to Aphrodite at a great distance during her ultimate.

  • This ability has been changed to reduce the physical protection of the targets by 20 instead of lowering their damage dealt.

Regurgitate

  • This ability now applies Cripple to all enemies caught within the radius.
  • The amount of time that Bakasura is doing cone attacks during this ability has been properly set to 6 seconds, as intended.  The previous time was 4 seconds.
  • The minions that are regurgitated are now a standard regurgitated melee minion independent of the minions eaten. and can surround the enemy

  • Thor can no longer teleport to his hammer when affected by Cripple.
