The Date Everyone Wants To Have – TERA’s Release Date Announced

17 January 2012 | 1 Comment » | LHStaff

We’ve spoken with them, convention after convention. We’ve talked about it in several of our Lore Cast episodes. We even went to them during PAX Prime ’11 to speak with them. Finally, after months of coverage, multiple interviews, and just side-line anticipation; we’re pleased to announce the date of TERA‘s release in North America: May 1st, 2012.

Here’s the official release statement from En Masse Entertainment, themselves:

SEATTLE – January 17, 2012 – En Masse Entertainment™, a publisher built by gamers, focused on delivering fun and innovative online games, announced today that its award-winning and highly anticipated action MMO title,TERA™, will launch on May 1, 2012. The upcoming release of TERA will be available in Standard and Collector’s Editions at retail and online stores. Marking a new era in gaming, TERA sets a new standard by delivering true action combat to players who want more than the stale and repetitive gameplay that exists in today’s MMOs.

The recipient of multiple industry honors and accolades, including “Best PC Game” and “Best MMO” at last year’s E3 expo, TERA is a new breed of online game that combines all the depth of a traditional MMO with the visceral gratification of an action game. In TERA, players must actively aim, dodge and block, as the game’s real-time combat system takes into account player position and skill, not stats alone.

Players begin by creating a character from seven races and eight classes as they join in an alliance to save the world from bloodthirsty armies of monsters who threaten to destroy the very gods who hold their world together. TERA also introduces a revolutionary political system in which players wield power in their province based on their in-game political prowess or player versus player combat skill.

E3 2011: New Footage from SW:TOR Belsavis Raid

8 June 2011 | 2 Comments » | pixiestixy

Rabid for more footage from Star Wars: The Old Republic? We now have a little bit more to feed you, courtesy of GameTrailers.com.

First up, check out this new trailer on the Belsavis raid that shows you what some of the later-game challenges you’ll be up against.

And if that doesn’t get you pumped, this will: BioWare is ramping up excitement about The Old Republic with an on-camera interview with Gabe Amatangelo, lead PvP designer for the game. The interview is a good starting point to get up to speed on the game for anyone who hasn’t been following the news as it comes out. But he also talks a bit about the Belsavis raid as the video shows clips from the trailer above. He explains about how the raid centers around an ancient prison that has a compromised security situation.

Beyond the raid, the video also has a couple of clips of other scenes, including some from a world which Star Wars fans will be very interested to see in-game: Alderaan. And Amatangelo also talks a little bit about the aspects of the game that he thinks will draw in both experienced MMO players and those who are new to the genre.

E3 2011: Vanillaware Unveils Dragon’s Crown, Co-op RPG for PlayStation 3 and Vita

8 June 2011 | No Comments » | pixiestixy

Although not one of the stars of E3, I’m hoping that Dragon’s Crown will be one of those great little hidden gems. The game was introduced to audiences briefly at E3 2011 yesterday in videos showcasing the PlayStation Vita, and not the game’s official website gives us a few more details on what it’s all about.

This is one cute little 2D RPG with an awesome hand-drawn art style that I am oh-so-looking-forward-to. Dragon’s Crown comes from Vanillaware, the same developer responsible for the irresistible games Odin Sphere and Muramasa: The Demon Blade. The former, in particular, drew me in enough to add it to my favorite-games-of-all-time list. The action, the story, the mechanics and fruit-growing mini-game of sorts all were right up my alley. So I have high hopes that Dragon’s Crown, as well.

Dragon’s Crown, anticipated for a Spring 2012 release date, allows up to four players connect can connect from around the world to play cooperatively via Playstation 3 or Playstation Vita. Although not an MMO, I’m curious to see how the coop feature plays out in RPG form, which still isn’t the most obvious choice for co-op gameplay, at least on consoles. Check out the official website, and watch the trailer below, our first glimpse into the game.

E3 2011: D&D Neverwinter Launches Site, First Trailer, New Screenshots

7 June 2011 | No Comments » | pixiestixy

One of the most nostalgic cities from Dungeons and Dragons of years past will come alive again soon with the release of Neverwinter later this year. Today, the game’s official website launched alongside a teaser trailer with the first look at the game.

Fans who have been following this game should be undoubtedly relieved to see plans continuing forward. The co-op RPG was developed by Cryptic Studios — but the future of that company was unshaky over the past few weeks when they were labeled as “discontinued” by backers at Atari. As of last week, Perfect World Company acquired Cryptic, along with all its properties, including Neverwinter. And it seems that under this new footing, Cryptic is plowing forward with the continued development and marketing of the game.

Here’s a little bit about the game from the official site:

One hundred years have passed since the Spellplague forever changed the magical and mysterious lands of Faerûn. Mighty empires fell and great cities toppled, leaving only monster-haunted ruins and survivors struggling to rebuild.

The city of Neverwinter, the Jewel of the North, seemed blessed by the gods. While the rest of the Sword Coast was devastated by the event, Neverwinter survived largely intact. But this was only a temporary reprieve from its inevitable doom. Nearly 75 years later, a volcanic eruption rained fire, ash and molten fury upon the city, annihilating everything in its wake.

Today, Neverwinter has restored much of its former glory. The survivors are rebuilding their fallen city and reclaiming their heritage. Humans, dwarves and elves work together to create a new Neverwinter. But evil forces conspire in the dark places of the world, seeking to undermine all…

Sounds promising, now lets see if they can awe us with their first teaser trailer. Click through to watch, and also make sure to check out the official site for a gallery of the first screenshots from the game. Continue Reading

E3 2011: Pre-show Trailers: Wakfu Combat

7 June 2011 | 1 Comment » | pixiestixy

The official start of E3 is only a few hours out, and still we’re seeing more exciting new footage hitting the interwebs in anticipation. This time, we have a combat trailer from the tactical fantasy MMO Wakfu, an offshoot from DOFUS under development by Ankama Games and published by Square Enix.

Aside from a slightly annoying announcer in the video, the actual gameplay looks catchy and something a bit different than the direction that most MMOs take, although similar to that of DOFUS. Wakfu currently is in open beta and is slated for a release later this year.
