CCP revealed quite a bit of information about DUST 514 today; the biggest being that they are dropping their “cover charge” and are going completely free-to-play with it. Initially, CCP stated that the game would be free, however, would require players to purchase between $10-20 worth of in-game currency upon first log in. Thankfully, CCP has seen the light, and has now dropped that fee.
Also revealed today is that DUST 514 will not be playable on the Playstation Vita. The PS Vita is the new hand-held gaming device from Sony that allows PS3 players to continue their game on the Vita. Players will be able to access their DUST 514 accounts to access the market, equip, customize their characters, vehicles, and more; however, they won’t be able to actively play the game.
Of course, it is not completely out of the picture either. DUST 514 executive producer Brandon Laurino stated,
As we continue to explore what the possibilities are, between Vita and PS3, of which there are many, we’ll keep updating the app with stuff like that over time.
Later this month, at Eve Fanfest, DUST 514 will be available to attendees for the first time. Eve Fanfest is planned for March 22-24 and will be in Reykjavik, Iceland.
