A torrent of information on the supposed stars of the upcoming Warcraft movie have come out. Deadline originally reported that Colin Farrell (Phone Booth, Scrubs) had been offered the lead male role with Paula Patton (Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol) in contract negotiations for the main female role. Finally, after years of whisper at Legendary Pictures, it appears that this picture is truly moving forward after director changes, a teaser trailer and a production set.
Those two names have been joined by a swath of others. The other actors are mainly being offered secondary roles. Paul Dano (Prisoners, Little Miss Sunshine, Loopers), Travis Fimmel (Vikings), Anson Mount (Hell On Wheels) and Anton Yelchin (Star Trek, Teminator: Salvation) are on the short list. Farrell is reportedly 50/50 on accepting the deal, with director Jones testing the rest.
In case you forgot, filming is set to begin in January 2014, meaning these roles will be solidified in short order. Charles Leavitt, pen behind early Blood Diamond treatments, wrote the script for the upcoming film.
Again, here’s to hoping Legendary Pictures can keep its streak of worthy movies going. At least it’s not Ben Affleck…?
