Released at Gamescom, the newest trailer video for Warhammer 40k: Dark Millennium showcases, finally, more information from THQ about the newest media expansion of the Warhammer 40k universe.
Shown in the newest Warhammer 40: Dark Millenium trailer is the mighty Imperium, mankind’s interstellar empire comprised of millions of planets and trillions of inhabitants.
Amongst the defenders of humanity against the alien, mutant and heretic are the three types of characters previewed: The mighty Space Marines, the Adeptus Mechanicus and the Imperial Guard.
The Imperial Guard are more-or-less normal humans, pressed into service by their homeworlds as tithes to the Emperor. In their millions, standard tactics involve them overwhelming enemy positions with waves upon waves of men, mercilessly driven to ever greater heights of devotion for the Empire they serve. They are most definitely the cannon-fodder branch of the human military and perform their role admirably.
The Adeptus Mechanicus, or Tech Priests, are servants of the Emperor as well, but also serve equally a Machine God, or even merge the two concepts together into one almighty deity. As the IT guys of the 40th millennium, only they still have the ability to work with and maintain the technology long lost to mankind. In a zealous effort to be closer to their Machine God, most of an Adeptus Mechanicus’ body is artificial. They consider their organic bodies to be impure and weak; only the machine can weather the storm of time in service to the Imperium.
Finally, the main show: The Space Marines. Once, they were human adolescents of outstanding martial talent, speed and dexterity. Having the honour of being recruited into Space Marine chapters from their respective homeworlds, they were implanted with genetically modified organs and gene-therapy in order to make them bigger, taller, faster and stronger than they would ever have been.

Standing at a whopping 9 feet tall in full armour, Space Marines wield weapons that would tear the arms from normal human beings; standard firearms that shoot not bullets, but miniature rockets the size of a D battery. Even larger is the ever-fantastic Heavy Bolter, which even these mammoth superhumans must carry underhand. Its ammo feed straps to their backpacks and fires 600 rounds a minute, each the size of a soda can. If none of this gives your inner nerd goosebumps, then you’re likely soulless to begin with.
Descriptions of every single weapon used in this fantastic, fatalistic and graphic glimpse into humanity’s future in 38,000 years would take me all day, so why listen to me nerdgasm all over your monitor when you can search for every video ever released about this incredible game?
