On Colbert Tonight: How Gaming Makes Us Better People

It’s not super often that two completely unrelated interests of mine meet. So when they do, I take notice.

Tonight at 11:30 EST on Comedy Central’s Colbert Report, Game Designer Jane McGonigal will clash with comedian Stephen Colbert on the topic of her new book, “Reality is Broken: Why Games Make Us Better and How They Can Change The World.”

Way back on a previous blog site I wrote a bit about McGonigal as one of the Women of WoW who I admire. And that’s because she has a unique voice in the gaming community and is someone who sees the big picture of how gaming has become a part of our culture and future.

Now McGonigal’s been making the rounds in gaming blogs again as she promotes her new book. I just saw her featured on WoW Insider’s 15 Minutes of Fame column before noticing on the Comedy Central website that she is a guest on Colbert tonight. Good timing!

No matter what your political views and how you feel about Colbert, I’m hopeful that the interview will bring some national spotlight to a topic that we all can relate to. I’m looking forward to seeing how Colbert can use his witty satire to allow the author to make points about the gaming world.

If you’re interested in the topic, check out McGonigal’s book or even her game Evoke to learn more. For those of you, like myself, who don’t get Comedy Central, check out the website where episodes are posted shortly after airtime. And check back here too — we’ll recap her appearance and post the video if we think it’s something you guys will enjoy.
