SMITE: Demigods, Deities and Gods Explained is a new column dedicated to introducing prospective players of SMITE to its massive back story of lore. From the Greek to Hindu, each week we’ll look at two characters from a major pantheon and provide a quick recap of their history and in what capacity their digital incarnation will represent on the field of Hi-Rez Studios’ upcoming MOBA.
Lore: He Bo, also known as Bing-yi, is the God of the Yellow River. Born a mortal, he became a deity after he sacrificed himself to the Yellow River. After one of its many devastating floods, He Bo tied a series of heavy rocks to himself and plunged into the torrent of silty water. Since his sacrifice, it became a ritual to sacrifice a virgin girl to the waters as his bride.
He Bo is the brother of moon goddess Heng O or Chang O.
In-Game: He Bo is a ranged spellcaster that specializes in crowd control and disables. The River God can launch geysers to damage, slow and knock his numerous enemies airborne. He Bo can also increase his own movement speed while simultaneously decreasing that of his prey’s with a stream of hydration. And naturally, he can morph into a giant wall of devastating water.
