What an exciting day!
At long last, Cryptic Studios’ Dungeons & Dragons action/adventure MMORPG Neverwinter is open for everyone to enjoy! Joined with that new, I have also managed to find a workaround that allows me to access the internet again; so I can be here to share in the fun!
As excited as I am, I’m sure the developers behind the game are even more excited (and probably exhausted!):
“After four successful Beta Weekends and many months of internal Alpha tests, we are thrilled to be in Open Beta,” said Cryptic Studios Executive Producer and COO, Craig Zinkievich. “On behalf of the entire team at Perfect World and Cryptic Studios, I’d like to thank the Founders, Beta Weekend participants, Alpha testers, fans, and press for their feedback and continued support in making Neverwinter the best game we’ve ever launched.”
Hit the jump for more info on the launch; including a small unofficial FAQ I’ve put together to answer some of the more common questions I keep seeing on the general chats.
Today, April 30th, restricted access to Neverwinter ended, and anyone can make an account and play.
Cryptic Studios and Perfect World are considering to mark this the beginning of Open Beta, although from this point forward there will be no further character wipes.
Character decisions are now permanent: all skill upgrades, profession choices, personal customization, companions, mounts and any other purchases are persistent. You’re stuck with any choices you make from this point forward – it’s time to really dive in and develop your characters!
I have 3 already, and am planning characters #4 and #5 – I’m really a horrible altoholic. I’m sure by the time more classes are released, I will need to purchase extra character slots!
But on to the information!
As I said, there are many questions that I keep seeing over and over again as more people get into the game, and I thought I’d take a moment to answer them here in case it helps anyone.
Here is the lovely map of the city of Neverwinter.
- You can get the packages in your mail at the mail courier. He is located at the envelop icon, #15 on this map.
- The relic merchant, where you get daily quests, is located at the diamond icon. It’s #26 on this map. Note that you can pick up and turn in dailies at the home screen. Access this by hitting L.
- ID scrolls are purchased in the same place, from the woman standing next to the kobold.
- The bank is located at #13, the little temple icon. Personal bankers are there as well as guild bankers – the personal bankers are hiding behind the windows.
- The area inside the squared section at the south of the map is the market. There are various vendors there, selling gear, consumables (health potions and skill kits), and crafting supplies. There are also seal (the dungeon tokens) vendors here.
There are on-going login issues. The servers are at their full capacity, so give it some patience! If you’re in a queue and seeing fluctuating numbers, this is a display bug, you’re not actually moving around in the queue. Just wait, and you’ll eventually be in game.
Here are some quotes from the official developer forum post about launcher issues I’ve found, in case you’re having issues:
