SDCC 2013: Firefly Online Heading to Mobile Devices (Video)

San Diego Comic Con is slowly becoming a bastion of video games news. The parade of everything geek dropped a bit of mobile video game news with the official unveiling and trailer for Firefly Online. Being developed with an official license from Fox Digital by Quantum Mechanix Interactive and Spark Plug Games, the title is targeting the two largest mobile platforms, Android and iOS. Sorry, Windows Phone and Blackberry users.

Gameplay details remain largely scarce. What we do know is that it has been labeled as a social online RPG. As they stand now, features include ship customization, hiring of your dedicated crew and seek jobs throughout the hard science fiction universe.

The news is exciting, but the development teams on the case aren’t on par. QMx features a pair of interesting apps. The game design pedigree comes from Spark Plug Games, a dev house with a handful of casual games under its belt for mobile and desktop platforms.

Firefly Online is scheduled for release to app stores in the summer of 2014. After the cut you’ll find the official reveal trailer, featuring almost nothing outside the announcement. Regardless, it has been viewed over 300,000.
