SMITE: Demigods, Deities and Gods Explained is a column dedicated to introducing prospective players of SMITE to its massive back story of lore. From the Greek to Hindu, each week we’ll look at two characters from a major pantheon and provide a quick recap of their history and in what capacity their digital incarnation will represent on the field of Hi-Rez Studios’ new MOBA.
Lore: Nemesis strikes fear into the hearts of mortals and gods alike. The Goddess of Revenge makes no distinction between status for acts of hubris, the frowned-upon Greek term for what is known today as arrogance and/or pride. Even if such personal pride is well deserved from the field of battle, business or the arts, the Goddess of Revenge, again, makes no distinction. For hubris is a crime against the realm and must be punished with unfettered justice.
A more contemporary folk hero articulates her style of justice very well, the tales and deeds of Robin Hood. Her philosophy is to equalize the benefits and needs of all. The ultimate in social justice. The best known depiction of her societal revenge is that against the mortal known as Narcissus. Consumed by his abhorrent male perfection the man was lured to a pool of water that perfectly reflected his own grace. Enraptured by his image he died of starvation at the hands of the justice of revenge; Nemesis.
In-Game: Fear a kill streak against the likes of Nemesis. She doesn’t receive a perk for hunting you, but God forbid the fleshy person in charge of her avatar understand the lore. A physical melee assassin, she weans powers from her opponent’s items, balancing the scales between benefactor and feeder. Her abilities harass any and all Gods, from tank to assassin, thanks to high mobility, hard health reduction and sustainable prowess.
If you’re looking to met out undeniable justice focus on your typical assassin items. Qin’s Sais will enable you to be a tank killer, Rage and Deathbringer deal ultimate destruction to anything that moves and the likes of Heartseeker will enable Nemesis players to snowball into death-bringing glory. She’s a clear assassin. One able to get on top of and bring down any opponent, from squishy Anubis to the hardened Geb.
