Forged Chaos, the developer behind upcoming MMORPG Trials of Ascension, has announced an unusual new race for the title. Following the previously announced Human race – creative, right? – the company has revealed the unusual, a race based on arachnids. The spider-line Raknar joins the Humans as the only currently announced playable race in the Kickstarter hopeful scheduled for launch in 2015.
“Anyone who’s read the lore of Trials of Ascension knows that the Raknar are a brutal, murderous race that nearly wiped out humanity during the Age of Shadows,” noted Chief Creative Officer Barry Smith, aka Varl, “and we think our design reflects that in some interesting ways.”
The unusual playable race stands at an astounding eight feet tall with a width surpassing its height. In the world of TerVarus the Raknar are complete opposites of Humans. Different character design begets unique gameplay such as webbing and poisons. This includes laying consumable hatchlings to grant permanent attributes boost.
Additional races, including Dragons, Pixies, Doppelgangers, and Gryphons, are listed as Kickstarter stretch goals for the project. As of press, Trials of Ascension has 21 days remaining to reach the $750,000. It currently stands at just under $72,000.
