SWTOR Servers Shut Down – Preparing for Launch

19 December 2011 | 2 Comments » | LHStaff

Less than an hour ago, along with thousands of other people, I was booted off of Star Wars: The Old Republic for preparation for the big launch. Horrible timing too as my group was at the end of the Mandalorian Raiders Flashpoint and in our rush to finish it before we got kicked, we ended up wiping at the final boss fight with not enough time for a second shot.

The servers are currently inaccessible and will be until 12:01 EST when the game will official launch. For players that pre-ordered the game, but have not yet entered their game code, BioWare announced a few days ago that there will be a two day grace period incase you didn’t received your physical copy yet.

Also BioWare will be adding addition servers for the midnight launch in preparations for the influx of new players, so hopefully the queues won’t be too bad tomorrow.

Our Shakes & Fidget Guild Needs You!

16 December 2011 | 2 Comments » | iTZKooPA

We launched the Official LoreHound.com fan guild inside Shakes & Fidget awhile back now. Despite the fact that the guild launched on the oldest server, it’s become one of the most powerful. In a scant few weeks the guild rose from the depths of the Level 1 guild ranks, a seemingly bottomless pit, to become a Top 75 ranked guild. Recently pixiestixy, the guild’s GM, surpassed the Level 100 (gratz!) mile marker, enabling the guild to bring the pain to Guild Dungeons like never before. Boss mobs like the Invisible Threat and the Starfish of Death have already met their match.

There’s truly never been a better time to start in Shakes & Fidget. The game recently received its largest content patch to date and its now available on Android smartphones and tablets. The patch  introduced Weekend Events, Playa’s version of the MMOG staple daily quests. The Android client, well that just speaks for itself, even if it is in beta.

Oh, and the forum is chock full of information for the newcomers, hosted by none other than iTZKooPA.

In addition, Lore Hound’s in-game bonuses have continued to increase at a good clip, offering guildmates wild experience and gold bonuses. The guild has opened its ranks to new players, and we’d love for one of them to be you, a faithful reader. All you need to do is sign-up (takes less than five minutes) and play. There’s nothing to install and nothing to buy.

Once you’re account is created on Server 1, shoot pixiestixy or MaxBooger an in-game mail for an invite.

Guild Wars 2 Mesmer Details + Trailer

14 December 2011 | 5 Comments » | LHStaff

ArenaNet revealed the final Guild Wars 2 class two days ago as the Mesmer and today we have a all the juicy details plus a trailer showcasing just how bad ass this class can be.

The Mesmer class are magical duelist who rely on illusions and powerful mind spells to defeat their enemies. They have two illusion spells, Clones and Phantasms, which create an illusion that can deal damage to the targeted enemy.  Clone is less powerful and an exact clone of the caster while Phantasms illusions carry different weapons dealing more damage.

Mantras are spells that while take a long time to cast, are able to be cast in-between other spells, meaning while your Mantra is charging up, you are able to cast other spells or you can charge it up before a battle.

Confusion and Shattering are the final two spell types. Confusions is a condition spell that damages a target for the activities they do while confused and Shattering allows the Mesmer to destroy an illusion that will then deal damage or cast other effects on early by foes.

For a full break-down of the Mesmer class skills and spells head over to the GW2 website. You can also view the full Guild Wars 2 Mesmer trailer below.

Aion Goes Free-to-Play in EU

14 December 2011 | No Comments » | LHStaff

NCsoft and the German gaming publisher Gameforged have partnered up to bring European players a Free-to-Play version of Aion staring in February 2012.

The switch will introduce three new account types, Free, Veteran and Gold.  Free will obviously have the most restrictions, but even the Veteran plan will have some slight restrictions. You can view the plan comparison at the Aion plan page.

As the title says this change only effects EU players, so North American gamers will continue to pay a monthy subscription cost, although I wouldn’t be surprised if it goes F2P later on in 2012.

You can view the Aion Free-to-Play announcement trailer below.

Square Enix Members Site Compromised

13 December 2011 | No Comments » | LHStaff

Square Enix is reporting today that their Members service site has been accessed by unauthorized users. The full extent to what the intruders gained access to has not yet been released, however Square Enix has confirmed that no credit card data was involved.

The compromise effects both North America and Japanese members and while Square Enix continues the investigation, all members services will be temporarily shutdown for a few days.

We have reason to believe that unknown parties may have gained unauthorized access to a particular Square Enix server related to the free SQUARE ENIX MEMBERS service offered in North America and Japan. In response, Square Enix, Inc. has temporarily suspended operation of the SQUARE ENIX MEMBERS service starting at 10PM (PST) on December 12, 2011.

We are assessing the full extent of this potential breach to determine what data, if any, was compromised and will provide more details as soon as possible. While some personal information may have been accessed, we can confirm that there is no possibility of any credit card information leak from this incident, since the server in question stores no credit card information. We estimate that the suspension will continue for a few days until we complete our investigation and counter-measures. We will update you as we learn more.

More information will be posted as we learn it.

Minecraft Adventures 1.1: Sky Fort

13 December 2011 | 3 Comments » | Mordil

It’s about time we jumped on the bandwagon for Minecraft! Below you will see the first video installment of my Minecraft Adventures of my projects that I have worked on in Creative Mode, and you have seen screenshots of on our Lore Hound Facebook page.

As I said in the video, you can download the texture pack either in HD here, or in SD, here. Please make sure you think you can run HD textures, if you’re not sure, grab the SD version instead. I am not held responsible for hard drive failures due to over-clocking RAM. It is a very powerful texture pack.

You also need to download MC Patcher, which you can get the PC version from here; and the OS X version from here.

However, you must also grab the “MCPatcher” file, for whichever OS you’re running, in order for it to work. If you do not, the images will be broken. We will be adding updates to our texture pack periodically, and when it is updated each time officially, a tweet and Facebook status update will be given to let you know, and a text document with a list of changes will be linked. You don’t have to patch the texture pack in, you only need to patch “HD Textures” in for it to work.

How to do all of this is explained after the jump, below the video; enjoy!
