F2P specialist Bigpoint has finally taken the wraps off of its upcoming MOBA title Merc Elite. Originally announced in mid-March, the game will feature near-future combat, a first for the multiplayer online battle arena genre. The team-based military title will feature the standard 5v5 battles but without the typical laning scenario. Breaking the mold set forth by DotA, League of Legends and Heroes of Newerth, the Domination game mode force players to capture and hold certain flag. Much like SMITE’s Domination game mode.
Merc Elite is the first game from 49Games since being acquired by Bigpoint in 2011. Developed with a team of over 40 individuals and 20 months of time, Merc Elite is based upon the Unity3D engine enabling impressive graphics and new gameplay mechanics. Players can select between different classes and personalize via a weapons system.
Merc Elite is scheduled for open beta by the end of summer 2013. So that’d be pretty soon! Bigpoint is best known for Battlestar Galactica Online and Drakensang Online. The latter developed by Radon Labs, a previous acquisition.
